My Stamping Studio:  Neat & Tidy Ribbon & Twine!

Getting Organized -ribbon and twine

TODAY we are going to continue our journey toward better craft organization by diving a little deeper into the organization of My Stamping Studio “command center.” Last week, we discussed my paper storage holders and sleeves. This week, I’m sharing my simple method for organizing ribbon and twine.

I have opted to tuck my ribbon and twine out of sight. It always seemed messy when hanging from a dowl or ribbon rack in my open space. Instead, I use two of the drawers in my multi-drawer cabinet (a 2 1/2″ high drawer for twine and a 3 1/2″ high drawer for ribbon) and fitted trays.  I label each drawer with the Stamp-n-Storage Label Holders and using my P-Touch Cube Plus Labeler.

STAMP-n-STORAGE DRAWER CABINETS. This 3 1/2″ high drawer is sized beautifully for my 3 1/4″ diameter reels of Stampin’ Up! ribbon. Two 6-compartment drawer cabinet half trays help with separation and further organization.

I use teeny pins (see them stored in the back) to keep the ends of the ribbon in place. This is a tip I got from Julie DiMatteo, a member of my Stampin’ Pretty Pals Community. I flipped the ribbon trio below up so that you can see the pins.  However, I typically roll pins to the bottom so that they are out of sight. While they are so tiny they don’t leave a hole in the ribbon, you could certainly put the loose end facing down. The end is a bit less secure but still pretty neat and tidy..

Pretty simple, right? However, this method keeps all my ribbon and twine options in front of me. You could certainly combine ribbon and twine in the 3 1/2″ drawer. The second photo shows a simple tip to add a snip to the cardboard “spool” and tuck in the end. Voila!

  1. Mary, thanks for sharing your storage tips! I do the same as you for my twine and on my ribbon, I use a mini glue dot that I seem to be able to reuse many times before replacing.

  2. Hi Mary,
Thanks for sharing your organizing tips! When I look at your TWINE photo it appears to my eyeballs 😵‍💫 that the trays have 3 compartments, not 6. Am I just not seeing extra divider ridges because it is clear? Help, please. And is your overall primary structure an Ikea Kallax or a custom built cabinet? Keep sharing all those beautiful cards and good tips 👏

    • You are correct!  I do have the 3 compartment trays for my twine, but either the 3 or 6 will work for both ribbon and for twine.

Regarding the shelving: The white bookshelves in my “command center” were removed from our basement (which is now “conquered” by my husband, Scott’s, pool table) and repurposed here (a small, 2nd floor bedroom with oodles of natural light). I was so excited that my Stamp-n-Storage units fit. Most of these units have been used and enjoyed in my studios for over a decade. That’s quality! Mary

  3. Hi Mary!
Approximately how many spools of ribbons are you able to store in the triple drawer? I am in the process of redesigning my command center and have recently discovered Stampnstorage products! LOVE THEM! We even visited their retail store! So awesome!!!

    • You can store approximately 36-40 spools of ribbon in one “triple” drawer. It all depends on how wide the ribbon is. Hope that helps. Mary
