Watercoloring “phobics” rejoice . . . the Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect photopolymer stamp set is for you (and me . . . and everyone else)!
I used this week’s Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA281) to kick start my design. See what the rest of the PPA Design Team has created with this sketch here.
STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:
- Sneak Peek Picture Perfect. The simple layering of coordinating stamps creates beautiful, shaded images that mimic the artistic beauty of watercoloring. My kind of “watercoloring!”
- To create the hummingbird, I layered Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Calypso Coral.
- Practice layering on scratch paper first to make sure your color combinations stay soft and you master alignment. Start with lighter colors.
- I used the “eye” of the hummingbird as one of my guides.
- Sneak Peek! Not so easy to see in the photo but stunning sparkle in person. I dotted the hummingbird with the Clear Wink of Stella brush for a WOW! factor.
- My Stampin’ Pretty Color Mix to save or pin to Pinterest.

I wasn’t sure about this set but your beautiful card has convinced me! Love the color combination and the shimmery wings!
Wow. I am in love with this card. I am a watercolor phobic too. I am determined to try this technique! Thanks for sharing such a lovely card.
In a word, PERFECTION! Clean, simple packing a big POW!
Thanks so much, Rae!
The Hummingbird is gorgeous Mary! Happy New Year to you and your family!
Thank you, Jeanne!
Your card is simply stunning ! TFS
Lovely card! I’ve had my eye on this set ever since I read the family sentiment on it when my catalogue arrived.
I fell in love with the sentiments first, as well, tap247!
I love this card!! I usually shy away from orangish colors, but you made it look so elegant and clean. One of my all time favs for sure.
I personally think the key to using bold color is to offset it with neutrals. Thanks, Roselee.
The minute I saw this card I was speechless. Once again you have enabled me as that was not on my list of stamps to get but that is the most amazing card! Your work is beautiful and the color combinations are stunning. Merry Christmas to you my friend
Oh, Susan! You sure know how to make a girl blush! Thank you so much!
The hummingbird is fantabulous! Thank you for sharing. Feel like I just got a Christmas present. Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Carol. You make my Christmas Eve even merrier.
Mary you amaze me! Love the colors! I just went through some old store bought cards two days ago and found this color combination and saved the card so I could use it for inspiration! We think alike on many things.
Woo hoo! Glad we both liked that color mix. I have seen a mix of greens with a “ruby” colored throat that is beautiful, too!
Thanks, Brian & Kadie. I had to experiment a bit to get the colors to layer well. The key is keeping the first hummingbird layers (steps 1 and 3) soft. Step 2 is the throat in Calypso Coral so that was “full strength.”
Wowza, Mary! These colors are perfect for this little hummingbird. Such a clean and beautifully layered card.
I pre-ordered this set because of the3-step flower……….Thinking the hummingbird might get first inking on this set. LOVELY card my friend.
