Stampin’ Up! Chock-Full of Cheer Holiday Matchbook

Stampin up demonstrator blog catalog holiday card idea gift matchbook tutorial
It’s hitting over 100 degrees these days in Tucson, AZ, and I’m thinking about Christmas?  REALLY?  Actually, I wanted to share a few more sneak peeks with you from the “be of good cheer” holiday suite in the new Stampin’ Up! 2012-2013 catalog.   Ho ho ho!

DRUM ROLL, PLEASE:  The new catalog begins tomorrow, June 1.  Orders for new products begin at NOON MST.  I’ll post the on-line link to the new catalog on my blog when Stampin’ Up! makes it available.

  • I stamped the mitten twice (Cherry Cobbler Ink), snipped and popped up the mitten on the left with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Both the mitten and sentiment are from Chock-Full of Cheer stamp set, available June 1.
  • The Gumball Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon is easy to work with and oh, so, luscious.  The ribbon, along with the new 2012-2014 Stampin’ Up! In Colors, will be available tomorrow!
  • Stampin’ Up! Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper (the polka dot paper added to the matchbook) offers charming patterns in a scale perfect for card making.
  • To create the matchbook (an idea from Stampin’ Success, my Stampin’ Up! demonstrator magazine), I cut Gumball Green card stock to 3 1/8″ x 8 5/8″.  Using a Stampin’ Up! Simply Scored Scoring Tool, I scored the short distance at 3 3/8″, 3 3/4″ and 7 3/4″.
  • I closed the matchbook with the ribbon.  However, you could staple the front, bottom flap it as an alternative.  You can fit a standard gift card in the pocket.  Please leave me a comment below with any other ideas to tuck in the matchbook!  Chocolates or tea, anyone?

  1. This is so cute!! I wasn’t too sure about the new colors but Gumball Green is absolutely perfect for the holidays! Can’t wait to order the new colors now!!

  2. Mary, this is such a pretty card! When I first saw the Be of Good Cheer DSP I wanted to make a Christmas card, too! I love the Cherry Cobbler and Gumball Green together!

  3. This is darling…I love the idea, and I am going to make Christmas stocking stuffers. Ghiradelli chocolates, individually wrapped, should tuck inside nicely, and I’ve seen some apple cider mixes that might work, too. Wouldn’t they make darling place cards at a Thanksgiving or holiday meal? Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. chris . . . love how you re-purposed such pretty things. carole . . . i bet a small calendar would work . . . very appropriate at the holidays for the new year!

  5. Giradelli (sp?) fits in there nicely – I made a bunch of these for Christmas a few years ago. I may have even stapled the edge of the chocolate package to it so they didn’t fall out. I made one with a little tea cup stamp on it and put the tea bag in there and put it on top of the box that held a pretty tea cup in it. I had a fancy bow on a package someone sent me that was sort of squashed and put that in the middle of the big bow and onto the box – repurposed and totally “Tea-riffic” recycling and tasty gift. I think I put some little sticky note pads in some one time too.

  6. hi judi . . . i KNEW i was forgetting something when i finished up the post. YES, this idea was from our demonstrator magazine (which is loaded with great ideas). I updated the post, too! my bad . . . sometimes it gets late and . . . . hugs, m

  7. Love the matchbook; I’m always looking for new ways to give gift cards dressed up! After reading everyone’s comments, I don’t have any other ideas than what’s been mentioned. I think the drink packet idea would be fun for a party and make the matchbooks in different colors to match the drink mixes!

  8. What about adding a drink mix packets for those long summer days. They would fit in there perfect also. We just keep on thinking ladies.

  9. hi e: we do get warm in the summer, especially in the afternoon. however, the mornings are lovely (and usually the evening). as long as i can spend some time outside each day, i’m pretty content! love the restaurant or salon idea!

  10. love this idea . . . i hadn’t read your comment and said the same thing . . . we are on the same page. Linda . . . dry soup packets are genius!

  11. good idea . . . you can definitely improvise on the size. just a thought . . . maybe bath salts in a little packet to tuck in as a “get well?”

  12. Mary, You are amazing. Your ideas are so beautiful and so practical. I love it. How about a gift card for your favorite place to eat or hair apt. to a friend’s favorite salon.
I love your card it is so cute. I am going to try it. I can not wait till June 1 at noon to see the rest of your wonderful ideas. Thank You Mary for making all of us feel so comfortable. Your ideas are great. Enjoy the beautiful summer in Arizona. I hope it does not get to uncomfortable. Thank You. Ellen

  13. Thanks for sharing this great project…may have to CASE this one! Tea, coffee packets, hot chocolate packets and perhaps a Christmas scented sachet might fit in there….hmmmm…

Thanks again for all of your wonderful ideas!

  14. LOVE LOVE LOVE This!!!! I am thinking I am going to put my homemad peppermint bath salts for Christmas with a gift card 😉 Thanks so much for the idea!

  15. Adorable, Mary! This would also be cute to make a bit bigger and staple dry soup packets in there for a “get well”. Or staple in a few tea packets for a “thinking of you” to a special friend. Oh, the possibilities!!!! Thanks, as always, for the creative idea :o)

  16. I just received something similar to this and it had a post it pad inside it. Neat thing to put it in as well. Love your ideas 🙂

  17. Hi Mary ,

Love your take on the matchbook featured in the Stampin’ Success magazine. This would be fun to add a few sticks of gum and a little cash! Thanks for sharing. I’m a big fan….Passed your site along at our monthly demo meeting….Take care and stay cool!
    Tomorrows the BIG Day!!

  18. Mary very nice, can’t wait to create this. I was thinking of making the base a little bigger and putting a few pieces of candy in there.

    Thanks for sharing.

  19. Mary, that’s addorable! How about putting some cash in that lil’ pocket? Or, a few little notes with inspirational messages or holiday messages on it? Endless possibilities again! I think this gumball green is my new favorite in color 🙂

  20. hi celia . . . summer is a challenge in AZ (the rest of the year makes up for it). however, i’m adapting pretty well. as long as i can spend time outside in the a.m. (walking, breakfast) and get in the pool, all is forgiven!

  21. hi shelley: thanks for your kind words and ideas. i love the personalized coupon for fun activities. fortunately, our morning temps in AZ(drops about 30 degrees with plentiful sunshine) are wonderful which helps make up for when the AC goes on later in the day! hugs, m

  22. Mary, oh so cute. You are so inspirational :-), and I just can’t wait for more of your wonderful creations. A fan!

  23. What a wonderful idea, I certainly will make them for my daughter’s school Christmas Fair, I know they will go down very well. Don’t think we will be getting the stamps or new colours in the UK yet….unfortunately.

Loving all your work and ideas.

    Helena D.

  24. This is darling Mary, thanks for the inspiration. I need to pick up a gift card for my dad for puppy sitting for me so I will have to wrap it up in a cute little cover like yours. I absolutely love the Christmas DSP. Is there a punch for the little mittens or did you hand cut them? Hummmm, I better go check the catalog. Happy Stampin’!

  25. I am lovin’ the matchbook style!!! Have to, have to, have to try this out. But, how do you come up with such great ideas in these temps? turn the AC down to 40? Ha! Thanks for sharing, Celia

  26. What a cool new way to offer a gift card! The Martha Stewart in me loves to purchase a gift & wrap it up beautifully, but after last years returns I guess the Gift Cards are more “in” than Martha Stewart! 🙂

  27. Mary,
Love the matchbox gift card idea. I am always looking for ideas for gift cards. Love the new color green and will have to order it on June 1. I have such a list of new items that I want from the new catalog. Thanks for sharing.

  28. Oh Mary, this is an adorable idea for a gift card!! This stamp set and DSP is on my first order! Can’t wait to play with it!!

  29. Mary, You’ve done it again. The matchbook is adorable. Love the new Christmas DSP. How about putting in a coupon or two good for lunch together, a haircut, a movie, running an errand, etc. Just a thought. I look forward to your blog everyday. Bye the way, you can keep the heat!
