Butterfly Hugs for a Friend Card

Sympathy Card Idea Using Stampin Up Bold Butterfly Die - Mary Fish StampinUp

I was in the mood for butterflies and needed an uplifting friend card.  The Stampin’ Up! Bold Butterfly Framelits Dies were the perfect solution.

STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:

The Lemon Lime Twist, Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party butterflies received a subtle ombre effect  using Sponge Daubers and coordinating inks.

The “hugs” sentiment is from Lovely Words Thinlits Dies.  I simply snipped it from the circle.  To add a cool, 3-D lift, I adhered Mini Stampin’ Dimensional halves in the widest spots.

I love the look of bold colors and crisp Whisper White.  Tutti-Frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins add colorful personality and pop.

A strip of washi tape (Basics Pack 2) dresses up the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope.

  1. I LOVE this card – but am wondering…….The butterfly punch – long ago I had gotten one at Michael’s and it was the worst punch ever! Is yours easy to use and you end up with the pretty butterfly, not little bits kinda torn, or not able to get the punch open without ripping the butterfly?

    • Thanks, Laura. We no longer carry a butterfly punch. This is a die (used with the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine) from Bold Butterfly Framelits Dies.

  2. I just love this card. It is all over the internet with good reason. Beautiful colors and simple technique. Perfection.

    • Wow! I had no idea, Shawn! Thanks for leaving me a kind comment and sharing that!

    • Thanks a bunch, Linda. This was a fun card to make! The sponging of color brings depth and color into play!

  3. Mary, your card with the butterflies and hugs is so beautiful. The simplicity and colors gives a feeling of warmth, smiles and hugs . Thanks so much for sharing.

    • Thanks, Camille. I think this would work beautifully with flowers for spring, too!

    • Thanks, Fran, for stopping by and leaving a sweet comment! It love this card and it has already been sent to a friend!

  4. Love this color combo, Mary, and the sweet butterflies. I have several friends, who could use some hugs and this card will be perfect. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a great day!

    • Thanks, Robbye. I enjoy these colors, too, and realize just about ANY colors would look pretty!

  5. I love butterflies and this one seems simple and easy to explain for a workshop. I would like to use it this Spring. Seems perfect for that and the colors are great.

  6. This card is really pretty! I just saw a commercial for Hallmark cards for Valentine’s Day and it appears they are “copying” homemade cards by using dies to create their cards. Makes me happy to make my own cards but I think I might try to CASE one of theirs just for fun!

    • I think inspiration is everywhere . . . even Hallmark cards. Adding your hand crafted personal touches means so much, Linda!

  7. Mary, I love this card! The colors are so pleasant and the butterflies add just the right “lift” to the hugs being sent. Who wouldn’t love getting this card in the mail, especially when we are surrounded by winter?! Thanks for sharing this!

    • I figured it was good time for signs of spring, Amy. I know it’s cold, cold, cold back in WI where I’m originally from!

  8. Aw, what a darling card! I love the “Hugs” sentiment but the butterflies would work with other sentiments, too and if you want to tuck one into a gift bag – no worries about squishing them!

    • Thanks, Karren. I think the butterflies would work with just about any sentiment that brings a smile!

  9. So much dimension on this beautiful card, Mary! Great color choices – an uplifting and sweet card. <3

  10. Absolutely gorgeous! I have one question. . . . How do you mail this without it getting mangled?????

    • Good question, Laura. The butterflies will flatten in an envelope. I always cover my hand stamped and embellished cards with a piece of card stock. I emboss it to create a little more beauty & cushion. There are rolls of thin bubble wrap you can cut and layer on top that work, too! I use the butterfly stamps made for non-machinable cards to avoid them going through a machine!

    • Thanks, Henrietta. It would be so easy to switch colors to pastels, neutrals or other brights!
