Introducing the Simply Scored Diagonal Plate

Stampin up simply scored diagonal plate envelope birthday card idea
Today’s card and envelope are detailed, fun and and feminine . . . “spot on” for my grand niece Eleni’s birthday.  My Stampin’ Up! Simply Scored Diagonal Plate arrived and I had a chance to experiment with it over the weekend.  I love it!

The diagonal plate works in tandem with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to create quick and pretty envelopes and more.

It will be available for customer purchase this Thursday, March 1.   I can’t share a photo of the actual plate until March 1 . . . but I CAN show you tons of photos (below) on how to use it to make envelopes.
Mojo230SketchIt’s time for a new Mojo Monday Round or Square Sketch Challenge (MOJO230), too!

IMG_1075-2 To create the envelope, I cut Twitterpated Designer Series Paper to 8 x 8″.

IMG_1076-2
The Simply Scored Diagonal Plate fits on the Simply Scored Scoring Tool (rubber feet keep it in place) and, like the scoring tool, the plate has grooves that run diagonally every 1/8″.  They line up with the same measurements used on the scoring tool so place markers come in equally handy.  I scored my 8 x 8″ paper diagonally on each corner at 3 3/8″.

I used a Stampin’ Up! 1 3/8″ Square Punch to crop out the triangle.

This shows all four sides cropped and ready to fold and adhere.

IMG_1090-2
The sides are folded in, bottom folded up and the top flap was cropped with a 3/16″ Corner Punch for a soft detail.

I used the Scallop Circle Bigz Die and my Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine to create the scallop circle card.  Here’s a tutorial to show you how to use Stampin’ Up! dies to create note cards.

  1. Love your card, Mary! Thanks for sharing the tutorial for the envy, too. I’m *so* glad that I’m a member of the Pretty Pals. Got this link from the Pals Facebook page. The oodles of stamping info is just the greatest thing!!!

  2. Mary,
Loved this card. The colors are just beautiful and will make a nice card for my granddaughter next year when she turns 16.
Can’t wait to purchase the simply scored plate. Love the envelope that goes with this card.
    Maureen

  3. Mary, your card is very sweet and so pretty!

I have a tip when doing round die cut cards if you want to keep your pretty scallops all the way around the card. Simply cut two separate scallop circles, score the bottom layer along one side of the circle about 5/8″ in from the edge, and adhere the two layers together using Sticky Strip from the scored line to the outer edge. Your card can open from the bottom as you have yours or from the side, either way. It is best to keep your two layers stacked as they were cut as the scallops on Sizzix scallop circle dies can vary slightly in shape around the circle.

I just realized I forgot to put the diagonal scoring plate on my order! Rats. It’s a pretty cool tool! Thank you for sharing, Mary.

  4. Mary, you never seem to amaze me. How did you do it. How come there is no WOW VIDEO attached? YOu are so wonderful

  5. Hi Staci: I can’t take credit for the square punch idea . . . it’s part of the tips/directions for the Simply Scored Diagonal Plate. I thought is was so clever! Hugs, M

  8. Rhandi

    The Simply Scored Diagonal Plate measures 12 3/8″ x 12 3/8″. Since I don’t have the MS Scoreboard, I can’t guarantee the fit 🙂

    Hugs, M

  9. So gorgeous Mary! You make me want to drop everything on my to do list and go down to my studio and play! : )

  10. “Sweet” card, Mary! I love all the little details. The scallop edge with the pearls, the ribbon, the flowers are all gorgeous.

  11. Been looking for shaped cards as my hubby wants to see me make some. Hummmmmmmmm. Not sure why but I will try to find some. Thanks for your help. ekc

  12. What can I say! So nice of you to share with all of us. Beautiful card and I can’t wait to receive my Simply Scored Diagonal Plate. Thank you again for sharing.

  13. I need to say Thank You!! I just had one of those “Why didn’t I think of that” moments. I don’t mind making envelopes but I have a hard time cutting out those notches and getting them even. Too much of a perfectist I guess. The square punch idea is both obvious and brilliant!!! Solved my problem!!

  14. Thanks Mary for another fabulous envelope tutorial! My Diagonal plate arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait to play with it. TFS 🙂

  15. OMG Mary! This card is so gorgeous and feminine. I just love those colors and that scalloped circle die. This is just the sweetest card ever!
    hugs,
    Ellen

  16. Absolutely darling! I love to use the scallop circle die. I must say you make creating an envelope look super simple. Thank you for sharing all your beautiful creations with all of us.

  17. This may be a question that you may not be allowed to answer. I have the MS Scoreboard so I didn’t really feel that I should spend the money to buy SU. Do you know or can you say if the diagonal plate will fit the MS scoreboard? I would really like to get one but just can’t justify buying a new scoreboard while mine works just fine.

  18. Love your card this morning and love how you did the envelope with the square punch. When March 1 comes, you must do a video with this new toy :).

  19. Love your card Mary for your grand niece Eleni’s birthday – and the matching envelopes is OH SO PRETTY! Can’t wait for our customers to be able to order the Stampin’ Up! Simply Scored Diagonal Plate ….. Just know it’s going to be a SUPER BIG HIT! Many THANKS for sharing a project of what you made using this new SU tool!

  20. Mary, this is so soft and pretty! Love the colors and those big pearls on the flowers 🙂 Thanks for all of the photos on the envelope…can’t wait to give it a try!

  21. Simply beautiful — makes me want to purchase the diagonal plate and the large scallop circle die!
