PPA102 Quilted Summer Picnic

Stampin up quilt card paper quilting pals paper arts 2
This week's Pals Paper Arts Inspiration Challenge (PPA102) is about summer.  My mind tracked to thoughts of a summer picnic for today's card.  However, any summer theme will do. Play along!  Get challenge details and see the PPA Design Team's card samples!

I finally pulled up my "big girl pants" and tried a simple version of Ellen Smallwood's quilting technique.  Click here to see Ellen's samples and tips that you raved about in my previous post.  Ellen's Dresden Pattern Details.

Here's a "before" of my flower:

Voil?!  Here's an "after."  I used the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine and the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to add the delicious texture.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

  • Stampin up rubber stamp punch paper quilting card I used the red and white check pattern from  Stampin' Up!Domestic Goddess Designer Series Paper (new in the Stampin' Up! 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog).  It reminds me of a cotton tablecloth when embossed with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • I took the easy route of punching out petals using the Blossom Petals Builder Punch rather than Ellen's dresden pattern. The punch idea was offered by Julie Talford in the original "quilting with paper" post.  Thanks for making it easier for me, Julie.
  • The Daffodil Delight Medallion on the flower center began as a 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punch.  Check out this tutorial to learn how to make this quick conversion.
  • The sentiment is from a new rubber stamp set called Friendly Phrases.  To keep the feel of the card cohesive but have a boost of personality, the "O" in "WOW" was transformed into a flower, too.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION ON MY STAMPIN' PRETTY FACEBOOK PAGE!  I'm in Salt Lake City for the Stampin' Up! Convention and will post updates and photos of the happenings.  I have 20 members of my Stampin' Pretty Pals attending from across the U.S. . . . what fun to get together and stamp!  Click here and be sure to "like" me so you get the latest news!

  1. This is a wow card for sure – I love the big flowers and the red picnic paper!

  2. This screams summer picnic … love it! So glad there are no ants present at this picnic! Congrats on your award at Convention … well deserved!

  3. What a great summer card! You can almost see the ants marching across the tablecloth to steal the watermelon. Thanks for the hint on the flower centers. Really want to give this quilting technique a try. Would it work with the dot embossing folder, or does it work best with the square lattice? Have a great time at the convention!

  4. Mary, this is fabulous!!! I love it and I can’t wait to get these goodies! Hugs,

  5. Hi Mary!

Can’t wait to hear all about convention. Guess I need to head on over to your Facebook page…

  7. Mary -This is so summery -Most of us have used this exact pattern table cloth for a picnic at the park ( our dollar tree sells them ) and then the embossing just adds to the great detail.

  8. Love your card! Very summer-ish. The white petals of the giant coneflowers still maintain your trademark crisp look even though there was a lot to look at. Beautifully done, Mary!

  9. Love the card! This paper reminds me of my grandma’s table cloths! I’ll have to put that on my wish list! Love your cards!

  10. This card is fantastic! Love the colors and the flowers and of course the quilting – very fun!

  11. Good morning, Mary: Lovely card!! That DSP looks like a table cloth my grandma had on her kitchen table when we went to stay with her on the long gone Summers of my childhood. It’s just like that. Brought back amazing, colorful, sweet and delicious memories of her. Thank you.
    Maria.

  12. YES! I see having a picnic with steamed crabs, corn on the cob, hush puppies and a tall beverage with sunflowers for the center piece on the picnic table. Our favorite summertime thing! Love your card!
