Yesterday was a busy day with the launch of Sale-A-Bration, Stampin’ Up!’s biggest promotion of the year.  Fortunately, I found a little time to escape and create a Quick and Pretty card and video for you using the clear block stamping technique.

SO TELL ME . . . please leave me a comment below on whether you have stamped using blocks previously or plan to after seeing the video.

STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:

  • Liz Hughes, a member of my Stampin’ Pretty Pals, also created a card and video today using clear block stamping.  Be sure to visit her DIY Paper Creations Blog and see how we each used the same technique with very different results.
  • NEW!  Check out that darling cupcake stamp from Best of Birthdays.  Stampin’ Up! is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary with monthly collections of Stampin’ Up! oldies but goodies (plus a brand new stamp in each set)!  Best of Birthdays is the first release for 2013!  Read all about it!

  • Daffodil Delight, Pool Party and Pumpkin Pie are a lively color combination with a retro edge.  I used the same color combo on this second card above.
  • If you want a softer look, stamp the block off once on a piece of scratch paper.  Experiment with different saturations.  There’s no right or wrong way!

  7. Valentine Candy favorite: It’s gotta be those firey,red-hot Valentine hearts. I love the way they turn your tongue bright red — what a surprise when you go to say “I love you”.

  8. Your creativity is a constant source of enjoyment to me after a long day of work. Thank you for sharing all that you do with the rest of us. Christa.

  9. Hi Mary!
I was so inspired by your creativity that I tried this last night. It was so easy. I do have to say it works much better with the new foam pads than the felt ones. I have some of both. I guess this motivates me to buy all foam now. I like them much better anyway. 🙂 Thanks!

    Cheryl

  10. I have not seen this technique – so simple and it adds so much interest to the card. Will definitely try it today. Thanks for all of your great ideas and videos.

  13. Carol Carriveau

So simple yet so impactful…thank you for reminding at least me to try this….and for sharing your great cards as well as Liz’s video….inspiring from both of you!

  14. Chris R. from Iowa

Another fun idea that I had forgotten about. I AM going to give this a whirl! I am making some cards for the soldiers that can’t have embelishments etc. and I think this will be a fun twist. I need to do Easter cards for them also and I think my little rabbit might look cute with the blocks. Thanks so much for the reminder!

  15. Wow, you make it look so simple and quick. Gonna give it a try….after I get dinner going?!?
    🙂

  16. I’ve seen the technique before, but this video is the little push I need to try it. Thanks for all your beautiful samples and helpful tips and videos.

  17. I love it! It’s a great way to dress up a simple card.

  18. Such cute cards Mary. Loved the video. Yes………I will try this now after seeing your video.

  19. Rosalynn Gorski

I love this technique!! I love the effect it gives with the overlapping colors. Love the card you did.

  20. Tammy, the blocks wash up beautifully with just a quick rinse of water. I assume you could use a little stampin’ mist if needed.

  21. Absolutely, I plan to do this soon! Love it!!

  22. Love it, love it, love it! Never used blocks as a stamp. I have a stash of solid shape stamps I usually used, but would forget to pull them out. My clear block are always out and just a finger touch a way. Must go stamp now.

  23. Your card is great! I have used my blocks before when I needed a square or rectangle stamp and didn’t have one. I really like the inconsistent images I get with them. This is a good reminder of what I could be doing with them. TFS

  24. Melissa Schaefer

I definitely will try this. So simple!

  25. Cant wait to try it!

  26. I haven’t yet, but definitely will now!! I’ve always cut my square or rectangle in paper to make myself a makeshift template and then used a blender with ink. This idea will definitely be a bolder look. Thanks so much for sharing your talent!!

  27. Mary, I never tried this clear block stamping it is so cute I love the idea. So simple and neat. Happy stamping. I love all of your ideas.

  28. I love using the blocks! I also have the blocks, triangles (as solid stamps) that SU put out years ago! Beautiful job, as always, Mary..thank you for all your ideas.

  29. Sharon Linenkugel

I’ve used the clear block method as a background for the sea. Then stamp a sailboat and a couple seagulls over the background. Looks way cool! I love your posts and reading ideas from other stampers. You rock, Mary!!

  30. I am definitely going to try this!!! Need to stock up on clear blocks now!

  31. I have been meaning to try this technique, but now I will be trying it sooner than later! Thank you so much for the video today – I love your videos and your blog! And I love the “fingernail on the dimensional trick” – that was new to me LOL! Thanks again for all you do!

  34. Mary, your videos are always short, sweet and very informative, great job as always! I have tried this before and loved the result, but haven’t used it in a workshop, thanks for the reminder. I’ll add it to a future workshop.

  35. YES! I have used the block stamping technique before, but mine have always been in Sahara sand to kind of fade into the background. You have inspired me to try it again, especially with these new, juicy foam stamp pads. This is a great card!

  36. Great looking, fast-clean cards. Love your color choices.

  37. Kimberly Jones

Loved the cards and a great way to show the versatility of this cute stamp set. Have used our largest block and used a brayer to get a striped look -just fun – can’t go wrong. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

  38. elizabeth mahoney

Well, I’ve ACCIDENTALLY stamped with clear blocks before (fumble fingers MaGee here). But now that I see your samples I can see how doing something with purpose makes all the difference. Wonderful idea.

  39. I have mainly used the note cards for this technique. Works great for a quick go to thank you cards. Love your color combo.

  40. What a beautiful card and awesome idea!

  41. LOVE this idea! i have never tried it, but intend to… today! Thank you for sharing another fun and creative idea with us!

  42. Been a while since I’ve done this technique, must rectify that. CASED your card with Bloomin’Marvellous today, lovely, thanks for sharing.

  43. Mary, I really love this! Thanks for the video – very helpful because I have never tried this technique, but I think I will. I think this could be great for a more masculine card…change up the colors and grab some of those stamps that I don’t want to color in, haha. Thanks! Have a great day 🙂

  44. I definitely plan to try it. Do you just rinse the block under water to wash?

  45. Honestly Mary…….You are my one friend who TOTALLY thinks outside of the box. LOVE this technique and might give it a try with my camp/club gals. I just ordered my January “Best of Birthday” stamp set and can’t wait for it to arrive. Might just have to use it to make a few of these cards for some February birthdays. Thanks again for sharing – LOVE this technique!

  46. You make the technique look so easy. A definite one to try soon. Thanks for all you wonderful ideas and videos.

  47. Who would’ve known that you can get such a pretty image with CLEAR STAMPING BLOCKS!!!!! Oh my goodness!! the blocks give out a very “distressed” look to the card, so pretty Mary, real pretty. You have the most inovated ideas, thank you for sharing this one today.

  48. I saw this technique before but haven’t tried it jet. Your card looks gorgeous. hugs! Mojca
