My daughter (and only child) started college this fall which resulted in my husband and I becoming empty nesters (“sniff”).  You’ll see more “miss you” and “love you” cards than ever before, including today’s card.  Isn’t this sentiment perfect for sending a child off to college!

STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:

  • I heat embossed the tree and sentiment in black.  It really makes the silhouette pop.

  1. A beautiful, touching card – I’m certain you daughter will love it.

My son recently moved a four and half hour car journey away to start his first job after graduating from University in June – empty nesting is so hard!! I feel like someone has surgically removed part of me. On one hand you are really pleased that they are getting on in life but on the other, you want them to be babies again.

Best wishes from across the pond.

    Ann

  2. Mary, this is perfect! What a sweet card. Have fun sending those care packages 🙂

  3. Absolutely sweet. I know your daughter will love receiving this as much as you loved creating it.

  4. Oh Goodness! Sniff is right. What a beautiful silhouette.

  5. Beautiful card….. Your daughter will shed a tear on that one. Job well done 🙂

  6. Charmaine Babineau

What a lovely card and perfect sentiment. The best of everything is what we hope our children have. There are some aspects of being empty nesters that you may enjoy so I wish you and your husband the best of everything. Charmaine, mother of three, grandmother of 13. I still cry when one of the kids enter kindergarten or college!

  7. Perfect card for the college student. Being an empty nester is a transition that I don’t look forward to. I am a semi empty nester. My son has moved from Michigan to Utah and my daughter walked out the door about 10 minutes ago to start her senior year of high school. I’ll be savoring every minute!!

  8. Your card is beautiful! I will also be making a lot of “miss you” cards as my oldest left for college Aug. 18. I sent her off with a box of handmade cards for different occasions, so she could keep in touch with her friends (ok, and with me too!) I included stamps and return address labels that I printed with her college address. But thank Heaven for smartphones and texting!

    Mary,

Your posts brings a smile to my face. Today’s post brought a tear with the smile. Thank you for your daily posts.

  10. Beautiful card and you will be surprised that, while missing her, you will enjoy the empty nest, too. And, then, remember they often DO come back and come and sometimes even come back again. It’s all good!

  11. This is so sweet and elegant! Another beautiful design.

  12. Very appropriate card for your Caroline. Love how you used Crystal Effects to “pretty up” your little flower with a pearl in the middle. Did you drop the pearl in the center of the flower after you covered it with Crystal Effects? Such a lovely touch for such a lovely card. Thanks for sharing Girlfriend!

  13. Oh Mary I feel for you, my youngest ‘baby’ went back to the UK to live with her Dad and attend school when she was 14 so YEARS before I was mentally ready! 🙁 on the plus side Mr D and I can go and do things just for us now 😉
I also have have my fur babies!

I get your blog delivered each day to my in-box, I really look forward to it, x

  14. hi kadie . . . the little flower is a button, not crystal effects 🙂 the pearl is a stick on so i just adhered it directly. m

  15. thank for all your words of encouragement. my daughter is just 2 hours away (thank goodness) and came home for the labor day weekend. however, it made me sad all over again to leave her at the bus depot yesterday. i’m so grateful for texting but i miss our daily walks and talks. i realize it will take time . . . stamping is providing some much needed therapy!

But I know how you fill !! Be strong, lots of hugs your way !! Ans yes your card is perfect for her , love it !!! Thinking of you !!

  17. Beautiful card – captures the feeling of sending your child off on her own perfectly; brought a tear to my eye thinking about my daughter who lives on the West coast. Haven’t seen her since Xmas…. and while one does get used to being an empty nester, it is still hard to keep saying “goodbye”.

  18. Lovely card, Mary. I’m glad you saw Caroline this weekend…my kids are still young but the thought of them leaving makes me sad, too. It’s good, normal, and the right thing for them to grow up, but we don’t have to like it. Glad you are surrounded by stampin Pal’s who love you!

  19. A fabulous card, Mary. Sleek, simple, beautiful. Hang in there with the empty nesting. I feel your pain and agree with all your posters on here….

  20. Love all your cards and especially this one. I’m an empty nester, sending three kids to college and now all are married and have children. Don’t worry Mary, you’ll get through this, it’s never easy but just keep creating those beautiful cards- it’s Art Therapy!!! Best wishes to you and your family!

  21. Hi Mary,
My heart feels for you. My daughter is starting on her PhD, so it’s been a LONG time since she moved out, but I still miss her so very much everyday!!! When your kids are as wonderful as ours are it’s never easy to see them go! I’m glad that your daughter is so close, it’s great that you can be there in 2 hours if she needs you. Mine is on the other side of the country, but at least that’s better than than the year she spent in Singapore or when she was in Africa!!! I love, love, love your card. It’s funny, I never even noticed that sentiment in the catalog before! Thanks for all of your inspiration. I look forward to my Inbox every morning!!!
    Peace, Love & Joy,
    Joyce

  22. Love the card; another stamp set I need to purchase. This is why I became a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator so I could make beautiful cards and send them to my daughter. She does receive the most cards in her unit and they are all different.

  23. What a sweet card, Mary. Try not to miss your daughter too much!

  24. What a lovely card. I would never have thought of that put its precious. I’m in the same boat, sure is hard to let them go…

  26. Sweet card! And it is so hard to let them go!

  27. Oh Mary, my three oldest are between ten and fifteen hours away… the goodbye time never gets easier – sorry to say. It’s great that you have such a good relationship with her, that makes your together time perfect. I send my kids cards all the time. They love them, roommates do too! Your card is perfect!

  28. Darlene Gabriel

Mary this really is beautiful. Your daughter is going to love it! I love the black white and red together – makes for a very stunning look. The pearl in the button is perfect and this sentiment is very touching.

  29. This card is lovely, your daughter will treasure it forever, I am sure. I am sure she will have a whole collage of cards from Mom by the time she finishes college. They all grow up way too fast! I’m thankful she’s only two hours away! And, love the hearts in the tree to send even more love, as only a Mom could do!

  30. simply gorgeous!

  31. My daughter leaving the nest is what started my stamping career. Somehow sending cards was therapy for me. It was a good connection with Beth and I am sure it will be for you and Caroline too. Beautiful card too Mary!

  32. Jennie Portonova

Mary, Bless your heart. Empty nesting is not easy. Your creativity will help you through this. Keep Calm and Stamp On!!

  33. This set is on my Wish List and I like the simplicity of your card design, Mary. If you tucked this in your daughter’s “off to college bag” I’ll bet you shed a few tears, as perhaps she did when she unpacked her bag. It’s always an emotional time.

  34. Mary, that is a perfect card. It is an exciting, learning and adventuresome time for both of you. Life is ever changing – always. She will have so many new things to share with you. I’ll bet her roommate (if she has one) would love a card to:) You will be just fine:)

  35. Great card, Mary. I love that set although I keep putting off buying it for some weird reason. Just today I sent off a care package to my daughter who also started college, in CO. Remember that our girls were on swim team and attended same HS? Hard to think that time has passed and our babies are off into the world. Aahhhh….my heart is with you! It’s great she’s come home already:) Hugs to you!

  36. Beautiful card Mary! I missed my mom terribly when I went to college. That was back before cell phones really took off and I remember running up $300 phone bills. Thank goodness for texting and facebook now!

  40. Mary, I love your card it is so sweet and simple. The heart in the tree are perfect.
The swing reminds me of my daughter who always loves to go on a swing. When we took my daughter to her college in Massachusetts it was five hours away. My husband had to stop the car he was crying so hard. Then a week later 911 hit. They had to shut the college down. Because Kelly was so far away she had to stay in her dorm. We never thought we would ever see her again. One of the planes came from the airport right
near her college. It was very difficult for all of us. Kelly grew and so did we all with this experience. Kelly has since moved back home again We have a wonderful mother- father – brother relationship. Hugs to you.

  41. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support and shared stories! Hugs, Mary

  42. Beautiful card, Mary! Best wishes as you and your family “adjust”!!
