A Card for a Baby Boy

You may recall that I returned to my home town, Madison, Wisconsin, last June to visit one of my best friends (since the 3rd grade) who had a stroke.  She has recovered amazingly well and recently became a grandmother for the first time.  This card celebrates the new little guy in her life.

STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:

  • My 1″ Square Punch was the foundation of the “checkerboard” background.
  • The umbrella was stamped a second time, paper snipped and popped up on a Stampin’ Dimensional.

  • The card base was shortened so that my flag could extend and still fit in an A2 card sized envelope.
  • A touch of Whisper White Baker’s Twine gives a finished “stitch” to the buttons.

  1. I would love to see a “car” punch for boy cards.

    thanks

  2. Great insights,We really need to become resourceful when it comes to creating cards specially for boys because you cannot easily decide what style and color you will put.

  3. Hi Linda: I twist the bakers twine underneath after threading it through the button, add a glue dot and then snip off the remaining ends of the twine. I give the button a good “smudge” when I adhere to the card so that it lays flat. Hugs, M

  4. Love this – it’s a reminder that I don’t have to watercolor those images!

  5. Just fabulous, Mary! Love your layout, the pop of color with the black & white image and the super awesome color combo.

  14. Ahhhhh!! Madison, WI. Wonderful memories of that amazing town. The people are wonderfully supportive for the IronMan Triathlon and stay with you all the way till the end. Beautiful city and beautiful country side.
I’m so happy your friend is doing so well, Mary and I’m sure she will love this card. Grandchildren are such a blessing, you can’t help but spoil them, just a little, when their parents are not looking, (wink, wink).

  15. I’m sure your bestie loved her card – and sooo glad to hear she has recovered and all is good in Madison. Can’t wait to connect with you and caught up – see you when you return to Tucson-I’m back!

  19. trop mignonne cette carte !

  20. Such a cool card – love that checkerboard. I have been meaning to ask you…when you finish your buttons with twine, how do you secure it to the back without creating too much bulk? I’ve used glue dots, but yours seem to sit much flatter on your card than mine.

  21. Gorgeous card – I love baby cards that aren’t the usual pastel colours. Very trendy!
