The retro vibe of the Sweet Cake stamp set immediately caught my attention in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog. It was a simple element to employ on this week’s Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA127) by Margaret Moody. Get inspired by the sketch and play along this week. All brands of products are welcome and we now offer a week for you to play!
I popped up the sentiment in a snap using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Watch my new 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial (below) to learn how.
ABOUT THE MUSIC: I have had oodles of emails and comments from you asking about the music I play during my videos. Honestly, it’s just a 25 second snippet of Spanish guitar that I purchased on-line so that I wouldn’t infringe on any copyrights. Glad you enjoy it!
STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:
- Large solid stamp images can sometimes need a little “nip tuck.” I used a Blender Pen and touch of Basic Black Ink to fill in a few areas that needed a bit more coverage. Watch my Blender Pen Ink Fix Tutorial.
- And the “cherry” on the top? I used a Red Sharpie Marker to turn one of the new Large Pearl Basic Jewels from white to red in seconds. Works for Rhinestones Basic Jewels, too. Want to see it in action? Click here for my Coloring Rhinestones demonstrator video tutorial.
- I embossed mini hearts onto a piece of Poppy Parade card stock using the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (Occasions Mini Catalog). It’s a splashy detail for the envelope flap.

Oooh, great video! Thanks for the idea! I love your music too and as soon as I heard it today I was reminded of the Plants vs. Zombies (a favorite video game in my house) theme song that I secretly love. So fun!
Hi Donna
The DSP I used is Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper (124339), not Big Top Birthday. I always confuse the two, sorry for the mix up.
I have updated my post to reflect the correct DSP.
Hugs, M
Mary,
I’m trying to recreate your card (I really love it) and I don’t see where you used the Big Top Birthday DSP? Am I missing it?
Not sure how to delete a post, but after I posted I see that it’s a sharpie 😎
I’ve also been looking for “stazon marker” but haven’t any luck. I’m wondering if you can color the pearls with the ink pad itself? Roll it around with tweezers?
Great card! I love this stamp set, can’t wait to get it. Love how you popped up the sentiment, and really love the large pearl for the cherry!
Cathy
My apologies, I meant Sharpies. I used a Red Sharpie marker, which can be found at most office supply store.
Hugs, M
Beautiful! Such a nice clean crisp card. Love it!
Mary, I LOVE the colors. So bright and cheerful. And the “cherry” was the perfect finishing touch. Very chic card.
Absolutely LOVE the cherry on top! Great color choices!
I LOVE this, Mary! Didn’t order this stamp set, but looks like I’ll have to now! Great color scheme and I love the cherry on top! See you tomorrow in SA!
Gorgeous card and thanks for the tip on the sentiment. I’ll be trying that one.
Thanks for sharing your great tip yesterday with the
P touch label maker. I thought about it for a while, then went online and bought one. It will make labeling so many things way easier.
Thanks so much,
Cindy
Fun card and great WOW minute! The best part is the cherry on top – I love it! That is even a greater idea!
Very fun card…great tip and thank you for telling about the music you use…I love Spanish guitar music as well.
Great card… clean and fresh!! Thanks for the banner tip also… I do like the extra dimension!
Can you share the name of the spanish guitar artist? I adore spanish guitar!! Do you remember Chet Atkins? He played beautiful spanish guitar music… not bad for a country boy!
Mary:
What a great idea (why didn’t we think of that???)for popping up the banner. Love all your cards and, of course, all your “one minute to wow”. Thanks for sharing.
Mary Ann
Love this, Mary! I may change my mind about this set. Seeing the cards you’ve made with it is inspiring!
So retro chic! Love that stamp in bold black and white! Makes me want to order a milk shake from a car hop 🙂
Mary . . . I love this card and did some research to find about Stazon markers. I couldn’t find anything about them. Where do you purchase them. I would love to be able to color our SU pearls. Thanks in advance!!
