Purse-O-Nality

Stampin up polka dot punches purse group

Wedding favors, bridal showers, birthdays, gift boxes . . . papercraft purses are an adorable adventure into 3-D.  With Stampin' Up!'s Sale-A-Bration approaching on Feb. 1 (their biggest promotion of the year), it's a perfect opportunity to show off several of the free gifts you can choose from (one for every $50 you spend).  More details and samples coming in future posts.

Stampin up polka dot punches purse

First up, this sweet purse (also on p. 71 of the new Stampin' Up! Spring/Summer 2009 Catalog) was created using three exclusive Sale-A-Bration offerings:  Polka Dot Punches Stamp Set (four charming stamps that coordinate with Stampin' Up! Punches), Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper (16 sheets, 4 each of 4 double-sided sheets) and Certainly Celery 5/8" Poly-Twill Ribbon.  The Certainly Celery Ribbon comes bundled with So Saffron 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, 10 yards each.

I'm so excited Stampin' Up! decided to offer designer paper and ribbon, along with free stamp sets for their Sale-A-Bration promotion. The colors are the essence of spring (Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Sahara Sand).

TIP:  I stamped the Polka Dot Punches 5-petal stamp on So Saffron card stock, trimmed and layered it on a 5 Petal Punch in Certainly Celery.  This creates a snazzy matted background.  A light blue Circle Rhinestone Brad adds "bling" to the center.

Finished size is approximately 3" x 2.5" x 1.25" (at the widest parts, excluding ribbon handle)

Stampin up polka dot punches purse white TIP:  The first time I try a 3-D object, I like to do a rehearsal with scratch paper.  I printed the purse template directly onto scratch paper, snipped it out and confirmed the "engineering" before the final run with designer paper.  With practice, I'm less likely to have an "oops" and waste the good stuff.

If the purses are decorative and won't be opened, you can typically print directly to the designer paper in your printer.  Once you close it up, the printed cut and score lines are hidden (so be sure to set up your printer so it will print on the side you want to the interior.

Here's another fun purse style to try. I layered a contrasting Delicate Dots Designer Series pattern on the flap.  TIP:  The "thread" through the Designer Button Bouquet is simply a sliver of So Saffron.  A Mini Glue Dot (103683) on the back holds the thread in place and adheres the button securely in place on the tag.

Finished size is approximately 3.25 x 2.75 x 1.25 (at the widest parts)

While I was at it, I whipped up a matching mini card and Scalloped Envelope.  The card begins with 3" x 4" Whisper White card stock, scored at 2" on the 4" side (ends up 3 x 2,  which fits neatly in Stampin' Up!'s 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" Scalloped Mini Envelope, Bigz Die, 113462).

Another Polka Dot Punch stamp grabs attention on Bashful Blue card stock and looks delightful cropped in seconds with the Scallop Circle Punch.  I stamped it a second time on Certainly Celery card stock, snipped our the center and popped it up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stamp Set:  Polka Dot Punches (113788, available Feb. 1)
Paper:  Delicate Dots Designer Series (114674, available Feb. 1), Whisper White (100730), Bashful Blue (105120), Certainly Celery (105125)
Ink:  Chocolate Chip (100908)
Cool Tools:  Scallop Circle Punch (109043), Scallop Edge Punch (112091)
The Perfect Touch:  Chit Chat Rub-Ons (111804)

Envelope:  Bigz Scallop Envelope Die (113462) & Certainly Celery 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon (114618, available Feb. 1)

TIP:  Can't find a stamp set that wasn't retired and didn't show up in the BrownSignature

P.S.  My big order from the new catalog arrives on Thursday, Jan. 22.  I'll be stalking the UPS truck and anxious to show you lots of new goodies.

  13. These are so cute! I think I’ll make each of the ladies and girls in my extended family one each for Easter this year. I’ll put little lip glosses or sample sized hand creams inside as a calorie-free treat. This is a great way to make use of a variety of Spring and Easter papers I have left over from last year to make room for some new papers from the new catalog.
    You’ve inspired me again!

    Hi Michelle:

  14. Wow, you really made the new SAB work!! It looks amazing.

I really like the soft colors of those papers. They remind me of the Notations ones, which I loved so much that I actually used the whole pack (which was a first for me back then!)

    TFS!
    Cindy

  16. Hi Mary,
Your samples are so gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing the templates too. I am a SU demo in Australia, so our SAB promotion has started already, and it’s lovely to see some new ideas for projects involving the stamp sets. Unfortunately we don’t have the lovely DP in SAB that you get:(
We have all been taking a keen interest in your new IB&C too. Our new (annual)one is released in April.
Kind Regards, Sharon Turnbull, Queensland, Australia.

  17. Oh I didn’t think I liked the SAB offerings (besides the paper), but it looks great!!

  18. Mary – what a great set of beautiful projects! I am working on my Pals challenge post for this week… wish me luck!
