Five tips to get the best results with Stampin’ Up! 3D embossing folders:

  1. Use the Right “Sandwich” in Your Machine – Since 3D embossing folders are thicker than standard ones, you’ll need the correct plate combination for your die-cutting machine. If you’re using the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, the Specialty Plate (#154711) is designed specifically for 3D embossing folders. Enjoy my FREE resource: Your MUST-HAVE Guide to a Perfect Embossing Sandwich
  2. Spritz Your Cardstock for Deeper Impressions – Lightly misting your cardstock with water before embossing can help soften the fibers, allowing for a deeper and more detailed impression without cracking. Just a fine mist is enough—avoid over-saturating the paper. The Stampin’ Spritzer if the PERFECT tool for this technique.
  3. Experiment with Inking Techniques – Add depth and color by applying ink to the raised or recessed areas of your embossed design. You can use a Blending Brush for soft shading or gently rub an ink pad directly onto the folder for a bold effect.
  4. Try Embossing Vellum for a Stunning Look – Vellum takes on a gorgeous, frosted effect when embossed with 3D folders. This technique is perfect for elegant and delicate card designs, especially for wedding or sympathy cards.
  5. Layer and Highlight for Extra Dimension – Combine embossed backgrounds with die-cuts, heat embossing, or embellishments to create a multi-dimensional look. You can also use a sanding block on colored cardstock to reveal the white core for added texture.
