Thank you for your sweet response to my card on yesterday’s post. I have done a lot of experimenting with the Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities Markers recently to find what works for me and came up with 7 Rules for Blendabilities Markers (especially for beginners) in my new 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial (above). I’m confident, with a little practice, you can get consistently beautiful results with Blendabilities!
These “rules” and their explanations are in the video. However, here’s a quick summary:
- Use Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (132708).
- Don’t worry about light sources and angles.
- I use the fine point end for coloring and blending.
- Protect your work surface from ink.
- Start with the darkest color.
- Leave lots of white space open to fill with the lightest color.
- Work one area at a time (one leaf, one petal).

Hi Mary its Theresa Krout your new downline. I just wanted to say I love your 7 rules!!! I have had trouble with coloring/blending so far and am SO EXCITED to get my kit because…. I ORDERED AS MANY BLENDABILITIES AS I COULD WITH MY KIT! I am so excited to share these with my friends. I am excited to learn more from you.
Mary, thanks for the great colouring tips! I can’t wait to give these a try as watercolouring wasn’t one of my favourite things to do!! But you make it look easy!!
Thanks, Carol. I tried just about method and am open to learning more advanced techniques for different looks. As a novice, I was looking for something simple to give me consistent results. I hope you fine the same to be true based on my rules. M
Thanks so much Mary! I’m anxious to give your tips a try! THANK YOU!!! 🙂 It was SO FUN seeing you and Scott on the cruise! 🙂
Hi Patti: In my opinion, they do not have a strong smell unless you put them right next to your nose (which I dont recommend :). Hugs, M
Love your 7 rules….I have tried several different ways to color with these fabulous new pens….but thinking that yours are the best and will follow your instructions! Thank you, Mary – always love your 1 Minute to Wow videos and instructions!
Hi Mary,
Thank you for your well executed video! I have been scared to death to try this type of marker but you make it look so simple! : )
Please tell me, do the markers have a strong odor? I have heard that Copic markers smell strong and need to be used in a well ventilated area and that is another reason I have avoided using them.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Patti
I tried starting with the lightest color first but found I had better results with just adding depth on the edges (darker colors) and using the lightest color to fill in the white space and blend. Thanks, Lynn.
Mary, thank you for your tips. I’ve seen lots of blendabilities videos and have to say yours have been the most helpful. I love water coloring and used that technique all the time. A water coloring rule is to start with the lightest color first so using the blendabilities has been a challenge. Your tips have really helped. Thanks so much.
Thank you for the great video, you are always so helpful!
Mary, this is fabulous, and so are you! Thanks so much for sharing your tips.
Im a visual learner, too!
Fabulous Mary! Thanks a ton.
Mary, thank you so much for the WOW video on using Blendabilities! I am thankful for the tips as I begin to practice!
Excellent video, Mary….Thx!
Thanks so much for this video tutorial on the Blendabilities, I was a little afraid to try them, now I’m less anxious. Thanks again.
Mary – Exquisite card. Wonderful video and tips!!! Thank you so much for both. You rock!
Mary…I have been watching a lot of videos on the blendibilities and you definitely have the best tips!!! Thanks so much for posting!!!
Thanks, Ellen. Yes, my Whisper White card stock was sacrificed as I was learning. But the video was just one take (hence, why the second flower is not colored–it was my back-up).
Dear Mary, Thank you so much for your great video. You really do a wonderful job teaching all of us your fine work. I appreciate your time and all the practice on your white card stock (LOL). I do love your videos. I appreciate all the tips along the way. Have a great day, Ellen Hinds
Great Video! I agree that there is a learning curve but the way you presented it make TOTAL sense! Thanks again for the inspiration…I plan to play with mine to develop more confidence!!!
Thanks so much for the tips and video. I’m a visual learner so this was very helpful to me!
Pam
Thanks Mary for your amazing tip suggestions. DITTO on all of them. It’s taking me some time and practice to say that I really do like the new Blendabilities. PRACTICE is the key word in learning how to use these new markers. I’m getting better!
Thanks, Kelly. I was fiercely determined to find methods that would make it easier for more stampers to enjoy Blendabilities. A lot of Whisper White cardstock was sacrificed in the process. LOL.
Mary. Excellent tips and video!!!!
Youre welcome, Lisa. I have avoided watercoloring for so long. Just never got the hang of it. The Blendabilities have really opened up the possibilities of playing with color in new, simpler ways!
Thanks for the video tutorial/tips.
