New WOW! Video! 7 Rules for Blendabilities Markers

Thank you for your sweet response to my card on yesterday’s post.  I have done a lot of experimenting with the Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities Markers recently to find what works for me and came up with 7 Rules for Blendabilities Markers (especially for beginners) in my new 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial (above).  I’m confident, with a little practice, you can get consistently beautiful results with Blendabilities!

These “rules” and their explanations are in the video.  However, here’s a quick summary:

  1. Use Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (132708).
  2. Don’t worry about light sources and angles.
  3. I use the fine point end for coloring and blending.
  4. Protect your work surface from ink.
  5. Start with the darkest color.
  6. Leave lots of white space open to fill with the lightest color.
  7. Work one area at a time (one leaf, one petal).

  6. Hi Mary,

Thank you for your well executed video! I have been scared to death to try this type of marker but you make it look so simple! : )

Please tell me, do the markers have a strong odor? I have heard that Copic markers smell strong and need to be used in a well ventilated area and that is another reason I have avoided using them.

Thank you in advance for your response.

  7. I tried starting with the lightest color first but found I had better results with just adding depth on the edges (darker colors) and using the lightest color to fill in the white space and blend. Thanks, Lynn.

  8. Mary, thank you for your tips. I’ve seen lots of blendabilities videos and have to say yours have been the most helpful. I love water coloring and used that technique all the time. A water coloring rule is to start with the lightest color first so using the blendabilities has been a challenge. Your tips have really helped. Thanks so much.

  12. Thanks, Ellen. Yes, my Whisper White card stock was sacrificed as I was learning. But the video was just one take (hence, why the second flower is not colored–it was my back-up).

  16. Thanks, Kelly. I was fiercely determined to find methods that would make it easier for more stampers to enjoy Blendabilities. A lot of Whisper White cardstock was sacrificed in the process. LOL.

  17. Youre welcome, Lisa. I have avoided watercoloring for so long. Just never got the hang of it. The Blendabilities have really opened up the possibilities of playing with color in new, simpler ways!
