Cards From Ellen, With Love

I have a fabulous guest artist today, Ellen Smallwood, a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals Virtual Community.  Ellen loves to drop her favorite handmade goodies in the mail to me and I get a chance to show them off to you.  She originally learned how to make the tee pee card above on You Tube (I'm working on getting you a link . . . the PDF I shared earlier wasn't the right one.  Sorry).  I'm thinking these would make fun placecards.  What are your ideas?  Please leave me a comment below.

Ellen also created these darling "love" cards (based on a card she saw on Stampin' Connection, a private gallery for demonstrators).  She embelllished the paper lanterns with hearts–perfect.  The stamp sets she used include Stampin' Up! Language of Love (Wood-Mount 133074 or Clear-Mount 133077), Happy Congratulations (Wood-Mount 133044 or Clear-Mount 133047) and Best of Love (Clear-Mount 132197).  See more Stampin' Up! "Best of" stamp sets (only available through March 31).

MORE TALES FROM THE DUST!  This week has had it's setbacks in My Stampin' Studio. The undercabinet tape lighting presented challenges for the electricians (resulting in more drywall removal, repair and dust) as well as not offering enough light in my studio once it was in.  As frustrating as it is, I know it's imperative to have good task lighting and we hope to get brighter tape light installed soon.  Frankly, I wish I had gone with standard undercabinet lighting . . . live and learn.

  1. Beautiful card Mary thank you for showcasing it and the studio is really shaping up. Some of the pictures you’ve shared of the new set up reminds me a tad of your older studio from your former house. Here’s an excellent tutorial for the Pyramid card style – hope that saves you some looking.

  2. Love the hearts in the lanterns card, very clever!

I’m loving watching the progression of your stamp room. Lighting it key and it is good you and your workmen are taking the time to get it done right up front.

Absolutely in love with the heart tent card….fabulous place setting card – what fun! – or just a beautiful card…thank you for sharing this beauty and Ellen’s other great cards! So love seeing the creativity of your downline!

  4. So smart to persist to get the lighting right. I know it feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back in remodels, but lighting is SO key. Best wishes for smooth sailing going forward.

  5. woo hoo! thanks for the tip, Ellen!

  6. Tape lighting is uber skinny LED lighting. The best part is that its pretty efficient, not hot and almost invisible behind a light molding (about 1/4 high). The challenge is that the tape lighting that was ordered for me isnt bright enough for the studio and not enough transformers were ordered.

  7. Mary what is tape light?

  8. Mary,
I love the white cabinets, and, yes, lighting is everything. The brighter the better for me, that’s why I can never have enough glass in my house. It kept getting more expensive for more of our windows so I had to settle for bright light bulbs. I love Ellen’s tepee card. I can see it in Soft Suede as Thanksgiving table name tags. Thanks for sharing, Ellen and Mary!

So glad you like my cards. One thing that I would like to share is that I used some small , thin, adhesive magnets from Basic Grey to hold the teepee closded. Then when ready to mail, just open it fold to the center and put in an A-6 envelope. I am “older” and do not have a blog so it is really fun for me to see my cards on Stampin’Pretty. A BIG heartful thankyou, Mary

  10. Hey, a fellow SU rep from my hometown….Way to go ELLEN!!!!

  11. I think that in the end you will love the lighting that you get from your choice than with traditional lighting. I have the traditional strips and there are shadowed areas that don’t get covered with light. In the mean time, these are fun and gorgeous cards from Ellen!

  12. Woohoo MsMary , waiting !!
Love those lovely cards , great idea for a place names ,
    Hugs frenchie

  13. Im planning to do a video when everything is done. Once the lighting is worked out, there are still a few things that need to be buttoned up. However, I plan to show some of the individual storage items in the meantime . . . once I can get it cleaned and the contractors wrap up!

  14. Lovely cards Mary, that Tee Pee card is so beautiful and the two cards with the sweet string of hears will melt anyone’s heart. Thank you for sharing them Mary and Ellen.

  15. Mary, I can so identify with the dust but I love the look of your room and wish I could have one like it!! Hang in there!! Ellen’s cards are adorable!!

  16. I love all the cards Ellen made – elegant is the only word I can come up with. Thanks for sharing

  17. The tee pee card that Ellen created is DARLING……and love the idea of making placecards out of them for a dinner party. Thanks for sharing!

  18. Hi Mary, I’ve been watching the growth in the NEW CRAFT ROOM and can hardly wait to see the finish line! I know what you mean about took me almost a year to find the right amount of light – BUT its worth the wait! It’s gong to be gorgeous!!! I’d LOVE to see a video of it all …
