Saying “Good Bye” to My Dear Little Isabel

6a00e54f95df92883401156fe8b788970c-500wiA punch art card I made for Isabel’s 10th birthday.  Here are the details.

My dear little pug, Isabel, Stamping Zone companion and loyal friend for the last 14 years passed away last week.   We had been nursing many doggie maladies for the past couple years (blind, deaf, diabetes, arthritis) but she still loved her belly rubs and daily walks.  I carried her up to my Stamping Zone each day (often 4-5 times a day) until the last few months since I feared she might bump into the baby gate I set at the top of the stairs and take a tumble.

IMG_1675-001
Last Tuesday she became very ill and her health was rapidly deteriorating.  She refused her belly rub for the first time in 14 years.  I’m convinced she was telling me she it was time.  I gave her a warm bath, wrapped her in fluffy towels and took her outside to enjoy the Arizona sunshine for one last time.   Isabel died in my arms several hours later in peace and dignity.

I made this short video from some footage (1999) of Isabel as a 4 month old puppy and my daughter, Caroline (age 5 at the time and now in college).  These two truly “grew up” together.  Even seeing Caroline in the video as we watched this weekend makes me realize how much time has passed.   Honestly, I have probably watched it (and much more Isabel footage) 30+ times this past week.  However, the tears are now evolving slowly into smiles and I feel we can start focusing more on happy memories than loss.

Thanks for letting me share this with you.  I get many emails about seeing Isabel in my Ultimate Stamping Zone video and felt you would want to know.  I encourage you to give your pets an extra long pat on the head or a few more minutes on a walk today in celebration of the immense happiness pets bring to our lives.

  68. MaryJo Marshall

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. We got our beagle Molly from the shelter in 2000 and she was 3 or 4…our children were 9 and 11 at the time. She was a wonderful girl. She got glaucoma and went blind and eventually we had to have both of her eyes removed because she had ruptured one. She was a happy girl and could get around all over the house and outside. We have another beagle named Penelope and got her as a puppy and she would help Molly get around the house and let us know if she wandered too far outside. We had the hard decision a year and a half ago and ha to let her go. My children are now 23 and 25 and still miss our little girl. (((((HUGS)))) to you all for your loss.

  69. Roberta Lewis

  77. I am so sorry Mary, I am a dog lover and I know what you are going through!!

  78. This is quite sad to read. I’m so moved by your devotion to that dear little dog. Being a pet owner myself, I know that what you gave was nothing to what she gave you. Thank you for helping her have a good life. Giving her a good death is the last loving thing you could do for this precious little Pug.

Bless you for sharing Isabel with us.

  79. Oh what a priceless video! My heart goes out to all of you, it’s never easy to say good-bye to a wonderful friend. I still miss my black lab, who has been gone for two years now. May your memories bring you peace. Mary K.

  80. Melanie Evans

What a sweet tribute to Isabel. I know how much dogs add to our lives. I had to put my dog to sleep 2 years ago and I still miss him. They are truly treasures. My heart goes out to you. I’m glad you are enjoying seeing pictures and videos of her. Bless you and her.

  81. I appreciate every loving comment, thank you. The things I miss most right now, I hadn’t expected. The sounds of her little snores when she was napping, the click of her nails on the tile floors when she was exploring around the house, an occasional bump into a wall due to her blindness.

Your sweet words are so comforting.

  82. Sheryl Diemer

Mary, so sorry for your loss.

  83. Patricia Gessner

Mary, I am so sorry. Time will heal but memories will too. Thinking of you and your family.

  85. I loved your memorial to your sweet little pug. It is hard losing our furry babies.

  86. [email protected]

Mary, so sorry for your loss. Isabel was an adorable puppy, and, I’m sure a faithful family friend. So sweet that she was close to you when she went. It’s just so hard. Thanks for sharing your video of her.

  87. Mary I’m so sorry to read this news. What a beautiful tribute to Isabel, and the video was so cute! I have a cat who loves to be cuddled like a baby and have her tummy rubbed; she’ll get extra today. I’ve lost quite a few beloved pets over the years – you never forget their little quirks or stop missing them, but the tears will slowly turn to smiles.
Hugs to you from across the ocean.

  88. Hi Mary, I’m really sorry to hear your dog passed away. I know it’s a big loss to you all.
    Eveline.

  89. What a beautiful tribute to your fur-baby, Isabel. May you find peace and comfort in your memories and know that so many of your blog readers are thinking of you and your family. My sympathies

  90. So sorry to hear about your loss Mary. My thoughts & prayers are with you <3 I was just building my dresser from Ikea last night for my own "ultimate stamping zone" and looked over on the couch to find my dachshund, martini, sprawled out on top of a few blankets, snoring away. She's 8 this year! How time flies. Hugs.

  91. My heart aches for you! Your tribute to her in the video of her and your daughter must bring a smile to her sweet pug spirit as she silently watches over you. Your daughter’s giggles are the way she would want to be remembered. Peace to you knowing she always felt your love to her last breath.

  92. Oh Mary, I’m so sorry! We lost our 12 yr old Sheltie in 2011 and I still cry when I think about him. We also got him when our son was 5 and they grew up together. It’s a deep loss and my heart goes out to you and your family.

  93. Mary, I’m so sorry for your loss. Our doggies are our family and we love them so very much. Isabel was a very loved companion and blessed to have you as her mom. I will say prayer for comfort for you today.

  94. Janet Swofford

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Isabel.Saying a prayer for peace to soothe your sorrow!

  95. My deepest sympathies Mary. It’s so hard to lose a pet who is such an important part of a family. Fur Babies bring so much joy into our lives. Thanks for sharing and God Bless!

  96. As a fellow Pug owner, I share in your sorrow. We lost our sweeet black Pug, Biscuit, after having her for 15 years, just two years ago. While I was at convention this summer, my husband adopted a 2-year old fawn Pug, Maggie, and I have been thrilled to have her in our home. But I still think of Biscuit almost every day. Pugs are such sweet companions! I’m so sorry you’ve lost yours. Hugs!

  97. Sorry for the loss of Isabel. I remember when you made that card. I CASE’d it and made the puggy black because I have a black pug. The video brought a tear to my eye too. Your daughter is adorable. Pugs are family and my prayers & pug hugs to you and your family.

  98. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve been there several times as we have had a dog most of our 48 years of marriage. The actual going to the vet to put them to sleep is worse than the natural parting. My Yorkie is 11 so I know our day is coming of going through this again, but his love, devotion and companionship is the best!

  99. bindi millson

Im so sorry for your loss Mary. I know how hard it is to lose a fur baby. But she will have left pawprints on your heart and will be watching over you from the big doggy playground above. Sending big hugs your way xxxxx

  100. So sorry you have lost a family member, Mary. What a great way to remember Isabel, tirelessly romping through the leaves. And I, of course, will “fondly” remember her toe-licking! She was a faithful stamping companion. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  103. Mary, So sorry to hear about you dog, it is never easy to lose a pet that you have had to long. Their part of your family like a family member.

  104. Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. As a Pug lover and a volunteer at Curly Tail Pug Rescue I know how you feel. My oldest pug is turned 12 this year, he is also blind and going deaf. I too have CASE’d this card. This video is amazing. Again I am sorry for your loss and send my condolences to you and your family. Pug hugs to all of you. oxo

  105. Helen Burnley

Mary, your sweet little Isabel looks like she had a wonderful life filled with much love. Having two small dogs of my own that also are my stamping companions, I can’t imagine life without them. I feel your sorrow & hope you find peace & a whole lot of smiles as you fondly remember your dear friend. TFS. ~ Helen

  106. Mary, I am so very sorry for your loss. My husband lost his pug, Beijing, about a year after we married and it broke his heart. And my 17-year old dachshund shared a similar story to Isabel’s until his death this past September. Isabel was so very loved. God bless you and heal you.

  107. Patty Grimard

Mary & Family, Isabel was well loved and she knew it. May you find comfort in all your happy memories and look back with warmth and laughter at your time together. Dogs and all pets touch our hearts and make life sooo much happier.
    Good bye Isabel.

  108. I am wiping the tears as I type – so forgive the typos. I am sorry for your loss, but it looks like you has many great times with Isabel. Thanks you for sharing that video. We lost our dear standard poodle a number of years ago and I am still grateful she died at home with us, but we knew it was coming and feared we would have to take her to the vet at then end. If you haven’t alreay, make a little display to put in the stamping room. She’ll make you smile still.

  109. Mary – I am so sorry for your loss of Isabel. She was obviously an integral part of your family, and well loved. Thank you for sharing the video with us. Hugs and prayers for you and your family. Wishing you many happy memories. – Lisa

  110. I was smiling & crying at the same time when I watched the video. I have a 19 year old kitty who is not doing well either. He and my son grew up together and I know “Itchy” will sorely be missed when it’s his time to say goodbye. And it’s so hard when we lose them. Keep Isabel and her memory close to your heart. She will always be there.

  111. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  112. Mary, thank you for sharing your story. Our pets become like our children, don’t they? And the best part is their unconditional love for us.

  115. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know Isabel was/is as much a part of your family as all the human’s in your life. Hold onto the precious memories you have of her and remind yourself she’s in a better place. Hugs.

  116. I’m so sorry, Mary. I know how hard it is when you lose a long time furry friend. My Weimaraner, Greta, passed away similarly after 11 beautiful years. She loved our pear trees and would sit under them gorging herself on pears most of the fall season. The season after she died, the trees had almost no fruit. I always thought they must have mourned her somehow. The year after it was a bumper crop. Life has it seasons. May you be comforted knowing she had a sweet life full of love.

Oh Mary, I am so very , very sorry for the loss of Isabel. Our pets become members of our families………it’s so hard to lose a loved one. Hugs and prayers……Nurse Payne

  118. Mary, so sorry for the loss of your furbaby. They truly are apart of your heart and your family. We know they can’t live as long as we’d like, but it is still hard when that time comes. Big Hugs and prayers! May Isabel live on in your heart and memories forever!

  119. I found this verse online. I hope it will bring you some comfort in this time of sadness. Condolences to you and your family.

There are some who think it’s foolish to weep
Over a cherished pet in eternal sleep.
Both those poor souls are truly blind
For they know not of the creature king.
But you who devoted so many years
Deserve the time to shed those tears
Over the loss of your furry friend
Whose life on earth has come to an end.
And may the tears that you now weep
Sow loving memories forever to keep.

  120. Mary, sharing your pain on the loss of your friend and baby, Isabel. All pet lovers understand how you feel.

  121. Mary,
I am soooo sorry to hear about your dear Isabel. I am a new doggie owner after many, many years of swearing I’d never have a dog. My dear snow has been with us almost 2 years now and I am lost without him. I know this might sound strange, but you and your family are in my prayers. Take care Mary.

  122. I am so sorry for your loss, Mary. I know what an important part of your family she was and the pain and sense of loss you are feeling. You are both in my thoughts. Hugs…

  123. I am so sorry for your loss. Dogs are such a gift of love and comfort.

  124. Mary and Family…. Sending Hugs….

Love the video… Glad u have sooo many happy memories to help bring a smile to ur heart!!

  129. I am truly sorry for your loss. I also had a pet who passed in my arms and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. My angel knew it was time and I was able to hold him as he went on. The sadness really really goes away (as I write this tears are falling and it has been four years since his passing) but remembering how they were will always joy into your heart. Your card I. Her honor is just “priceless”. My prayers go out to you and your family.

  130. Sooo Sorry for you loss Mary. Every dog is a small human in my book. Never to be replaced. I’m so glad you have some great memories and film of you beloved Isabel. I hope each day gets better for you and your family.

Mary I was so very sad when I read your post this morning. I too lost my sweet Crystal this past February. A very difficult loss, she was only 9. She was the fourth in the line of pugs in my life. I adore them. A pug is something special. They add so much to your lives. No other breed compares, as far as I am concerned. She had the most personality of any dog we have had. The companionship is greatly missed! Our pets just don’t stay long enough!

I know that you live in Tucson. I live in Prescott. We got our Crystal from a breeder in the Tucson/Marana area. I know that she is planning another breeding this fall. I think I am ready to add another pug to our lives. Hopefully the breeding takes!

By the way, have you ever read “Clara: The Story of the Pug Who Ruled my Life” by Margo Kaufman? I very fun read about pugs. I reread it after I lost Crystal. You can find it at Amazon.

    I loved your video.

    Hugs to you, DeeDee

P.S. I too made your Isabel card a couple of years back!

  138. Awww…this was so moving! So sad to lose a dear furry friend! ((hugs))

  139. Mary, I am so sorry about your loss of little Isabel. We have two pugs (brothers from the same litter) and we love them with all our heart. It sounds like your little girl was very loved and that’s the best gift you can give a pet. I’m glad that you are finally able to smile a little, even though I know it’s still incredibly hard not to have her. Sending pug love from my family to yours.

  140. Dearest Mary, as a fellow dog owner and one that also had to have her last dog put to sleep – I sure appreciate what you are going through.
The video is a keepsake for sure. As I have said before
I miss hearing her bells on the “Go to Meeting” calls.
Blessings to you every time you think of your dear Isabel. So very sorry for you all. What a cutie Caroline was and a lovely young lady today! Lots to be proud of. HUGS

  141. Mary, I a sorry for your loss. Pets are like one of the family. We had to put my dog down the year after I got married, ( 28 yrs ago) and it was very hard. I will be thinking of you.

  142. Yes, Patti . . . you got to personally experience her toe and leg licking. Isabel never met a lotion she didn’t find delicious!

  143. beautiful. thank you, therese.

  144. My heart is with you all! I am a dog owner and lover and also had to put my last dog down. Hardest thing to do. But your video and all of your photos are helping you I am sure. As I have said before I miss hearing Isabel’s bells on the “Go to Meeting” calls you have. My heart aches for all of you. HUGS

  145. Mary, I’m so sorry to hear of Isabel’s passing. I know this is a very difficult time for you and your family. She was blessed to have you and your family in her life as I know you were to have her in yours.

  146. Hi DeeDee: Thank you for the suggestion on the Pug book. Might be just the medicine I need. Hugs, M

  147. Your kind words mean so much. It’s nice to know there is so much support from my virtual friends. I can’t begin to tell you how much your love helps me heal.

  148. How lovely that Isabel told you it was time and that you were able to spend those last wonderful hours together. I’ll give my granddoggie pug an extra cuddle next time I see him.

  149. Oh Mary, I’m so very sorry to hear about Isabel. The tears rolled down my face reading this – not only because I’m so sad for your loss, but also because we just lost our kitty of 17 years a month ago. I know what you’re going through and am sending prayers of comfort to you and your family.

  150. I’m so sad to hear about Isabel….losing the family pet is SO hard. We lost our beloved Cocker Spaniel, Sasha 5 years ago this last June 30. She was 4 months short of her 12th birthday and we had had her since she was 2 months old. She, too, had some health problems but was doing fine. She had cataracts, blindness and a couple of other things that we had to deal with for about 3 years but she just passed her yearly exam two weeks before she passed and she had her last grooming one week before she past, so she was all beautiful. Her vet said that she died because her spleen ruptured and that there are no tests for that so there was no way for us to know that she had a problem there. That made it a bit easier, but still hard.

Anyway, thinking good thoughts for you and your family and know that Isabel is now no longer suffering and is probably having a good time with all the other doggies in doggie heaven! Hang in there!

  151. So very sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing the fun fall video.

  152. My heart aches for you. Our pets truly are a part of our family. So sorry for your loss.

  153. So Sorry for your loss Mary. We lost our best friend of 15-1/2 years, Max, recently. It’s so hard when they’re a part of your family. They truly leave a hole in your heart. Love your video-a wonderful memory to cherish.

  154. Mary, I’m deeply sorry for your loss, I read every blog post you write but I’m not much of one to comment. But upon reading your post I knew I had to tell you that you are in my prayers and you deal with this loss. Losing our beloved pets is so hard they make our life’s so much better than they are without them.

  155. Cheryl Harlan

Oh my, It is hard to know what to say when this happens. But I know how you are feeling Mary. I lost my Trudy dog (pug) 9yrs old on Feb 26th this year. She also was my loyal companion, sweetest dog I have have ever had, and my best little buddy. She stamped with me daily. I still carry her with me daily on my phone. This was truly hard so I definitely know how you are feeling. I am so sorry for your loss Mary. Prayers to you and your family.

  156. Tracey Sweeney

Awe Mary I’m so sorry for you and your family, it’s so hard to lose them. She was a very lucky girl to share her life with you guys.

  157. Heart breaking. I know exactly what you are going through. What joy pets being to our lives and they ask so little in return. We will be facing the same thing soon as our lab, Annie, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. I worry everyday that she is suffering even though she looks and still acts so happy. I’m so sorry for you and your family.

  158. Jennie Portonova

Hi Mary, How sad you must be. While your heart is broken right now, with time it will heal and be filled with precious memories of Isabel. So very sorry for your loss. 🙁

  159. So sorry … I know your grief – we have lost 4 pugs in the last few years- they all lived to be 12. I was blessed to have them as family.

  160. So sad to hear about your precious Isabel. And thank you for the reminder to hug our 4-legged children!
    Thoughts are with you.

  161. Thank you for sharing. So Sorry for your loss of Isabel.
The card makes me smile. Hugs!!!

  162. Mary, I’m so sorry. Our beloved Golden, Luna, died last April, so I know how much you and your family are missing Isabel but are also rejoicing in the many wonderful memories shared.

  163. Dawn D from Rochester, NY

    Mary –
How truly blessed you are to have that precious pug in your life and all of the people near and far to help you carry your load. The video made me cry. I have a puggie too .. she is Isabella, but we call her Bella, and she is declining. How wonderful you are to let her pass to the Rainbow Bridge with love and dignity. Thinking of your family as you grieve your loss and always remember all of the joy that she brought to your lives. Fur or feathers, four legs or two, they are our children. Praying for you.

  164. My goodness I didn’t expect to she’d any tears when I read your post today. I am so sorry but it sounds like Isabel lived the most beautiful life with an amazing owner. As I look at my golden retriever in my craft room. I’ll get own on my hands and knees to honor Isabel today with a nice belly rub. Hugs to you and your family.

  165. nancy littrell

  170. Mary, so sorry for the loss of your dog, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

  171. Sweet Mary,

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my darling Isabella two years ago. I’d had her for 13 years. I don’t have children, so of course she was may baby. It is so hard. I still cry sometimes, but most of the time when I think of her I smile. I hope you are blessed with much peace and comfort.

  172. Sympathy and hugs to you and your family

  173. Judy McMullen

    HUGS!

  174. Mary, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Isabel! My boys, Thor & Rocket, send special kitty cat hugs to you & your family!

  175. Oh I am so sorry. Our pets become such a big part of our family and their life span is so short compared to ours. Having been in a position of mourning the loss of several pets I hate that feeling. Hugs all the way to you. What a sweet card too. I am looking at our 10 month old Shih Tzu puppies thinking that I need to create some beautiful memories of our dogs with our daughters. The video I am sure now is priceless! Thanks for sharing the video and so sad about your loss. It has helped to remind me of the joy our pets can bring and the love we can share with them.

  176. Mary,
I’m obviously in a LONG line of people who want to say that we are very sorry for your loss. Your story and video brought me to tears this morning (and I don’t even own a dog!) I know how these little creatures become such a HUGE part of our lives and our daily routine. All their little habits and quirks are missed when they are gone. Your card is a dead ringer for Isabel….adorable! I’m sure she led a VERY nice life at your side…a very fortunate little pug.
HUGS all around for you and your family!

  177. Alicia Bongiorno

    Mary,
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Isabel! I bawled my eyes out missing our “Cassie” that we had to put down a year and a half ago when I saw your post. Those darn dogs just worm their way so deep in our hearts!!! So glad to hear that your are able to smile with the great memories! Every once in a while those tears just want to fall still for me!

  178. Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. our furballs to make quite an impact on our lives. Prayers to you and yours

  179. What a wonderful video which you will treasure forever. I can scarcely imagine what the bath water looked like that night!

Memories, the only things we get to take with us.

  180. Celeste Reising

As is evident from the blog comments, we all feel your pain, & you are very loved from near and far. Your story brought tears to my eyes as we have a pug that looks like your darling Isabel.
    Hang in there!!

  181. Sweet Memories, are what our pets leave for us, as to never forget them…..She will be missed, but, never forgotten…..Our new Bullmastiff we rescued, gets MEMORY KISSES, when I think of our 15 year old BM that died before getting Cinnamon …Cinnamon gets Sheba’s MEMORY KISSES all the time…..it’s how I keep her MEMORY alive!….It makes Cinnamon happy too!…smiles

  182. I am soooo sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in knowing that Isabel is playing in heaven just like in your video. When I lost my dog(after 19 1/2 yrs. not a typo, I wrote a poem. I’m not a poet but felt the need to express myself about this wonderful pal who had enriched my life. Cherish all your nice memories. Puppies do have a way of making your life better! Wanted you to know that someone in Lancaster, Pa shed a tear for you today. Janet

  183. Mary, So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this very personal time with us.

  184. [email protected]

I share your heart ache. there is nothing like loosing the little ones. they are so much a part of who you are. blessign that she passed in your arms and you did not have to make the ultimate decision. a good poem to help in the days ahead is the Rainbow Bridge. you can find it on the net. it does ease the pain a bit. sherie

  185. Please know that I’m praying for you as you go through this time and I’m glad to know that the tears are becoming smiles. Our fur babies are so much a part of our families. I loved what you wrote about running through the leaves. 🙂

  186. The sweet card you made looks just like Isabel. Thanks for sharing! And I feel for your loss.

  187. So sorry for your lost. Love the card.

  188. Mary, it’s so hard to lose your friend…but you/your family gave her a wonderful life. And in the end that’s what counts. Take care.

  189. Dear Mary, I am so sorry for your loss of Isabel. We lost our Pug a year ago and still miss him. We finally broke down and got another dog. This time we got a Jack Russell Terrier. She will never replace our Sammie but she is a sweet little dog. Maybe someday you can get another dog. I had tears in my eyes reading your post today. I know you will miss her greatly.

  194. Dear Mary, I a so sorry to hear of the death of your sweet Isabel. Your beautiful dog was so loved by you and your whole family. Thank you for sharing your dog with all of your readers. What a beautiful tribute to her life. You held her in your arms as she left you and went to heaven. You are n my prayers. I know what it is to loose a family pet. We have lost two dogs. Our last dog that was killed in from of our house by a truck.
A friend of mine was walking her dog. The dog would not walk by. Karen had to pick up her dog and carry her dog away. I love your video. With Caroline leaving for college just a short time ago. Now loosing Isabel. You are in my prayers, Hugs, Ellen Hinds

  195. Cynthia Blackwell

Sweet memories will always be with you of Isabel. Cherish those in your time of sadness and remember her with smiles. Sorry for this sad time. Love and hugs from Chandler, AZ

  196. My dearest condolences on the loss of your friend. It seems they each take up a space in our heart and we love them so much. I am glad she had such a joyful life with you and your family.

  197. So sorry for your loss Mary, I remember losing my beautiful Champ and how hard it was to get through the days without him sitting on my lap. All I can say is remember the beautiful 14 years your had with her and eventually the pain will diminish but the memories will last forever.

  198. What a precious video of Isabel and your daughter! Love the way she just plowed through those leaves!

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know how difficult it is when we lose one of our fur-babies. Remember the happy times and know she loved you with all her heart!

  199. I have read your blog for a long time and never commented but have enjoyed it immensely. I even bought Bygel Rails to hold my punches…an idea I got from your blog.
I just felt I had to comment, today, as I know how much I love my cats and dog. I have had to have several of my cats put to sleep over the past 7 years….and it’s so hard!!! My dog is 9, now, and I cherish every second I have with her. I loved your video….and I am so glad you have that to view over and over to remember all the good times you had with her. I know you don’t know me, but please accept a huge hug from one pet lover to another!!! They are our family and always will be.

  200. A sweet memory of a loyal companion and friend, a true unconditional love. So sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing.

  201. Sending love and sympathy. Thank you for sharing Isabel with us, too.

  202. Marcia in Virginia

Precious video Mary. Thank you for sharing the remembered joy as well as your loss. God bless.

  203. Condolences on the loss of your beloved pet, Isabel.
Lovely video of Caroline and Isabel romping through
the leaves, having a grand time. May Isabel’s memory
bring you many warm, happy thoughts.

  204. [email protected]

Mary – how sad for your family to lose Isabel. We know how attached you can get, & how attached we are to our Roxie girl. Thanks for sharing the video. Isabel is so cute running under the leaves, chasing your daughter. They bring so much joy to us. First I was crying, then I was giggling. You’re in my thoughts.

  205. Your post brings tears to my eyes as I remember losing my wonderful dogs. That is never an easy thing to experience. They are family and their loss leaves an empty hole in your heart. I pray you can patch that hole with fond memories. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  206. Debbi Atkinson

    Dear Mary,

I am so sorry at your loss; I have loved your stories of Isabel helping you stamp and I am sure that she will be missed by all of those that follow your blog.

I am volunteer with an animal rescue group in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and I can tell you that Isabel was a very lucky girl to have you as pet parent. Sadly, we see many pets get abandoned to shelters once they reach a certain age or develop certain illnesses; it is such a hardship on the poor animals and on those that struggle to find them a good home. I am so sad for you loss and yet at the same time so grateful that you were there for sweet Isabel when she needed you the most! Bless you!

  207. ooh Ms Mary , I fill so bad for you , it’s got to b lonely without her ,
may she be happy and and painless in dogie land ,
and may your heart heal soon !!
    hugs frenchie ,

  208. Kerry McDonough

So sorry for your loss! I’m in tears! She was definitely part of the family & loved very much! She loved you too! Prayers & hugs!

  209. What beautiful memories that video must be. Sorry for your loss. I have a 14 year old Boston Terrier who doesn’t know where he is most of the time. He can’t hear and can hardly see. I know he won’t be with us much longer and I feel your pain. Hugs and kisses to your family. I wish I had a video to remember our ‘Buddy’.

  210. I am so sorry to her about your loss Mary.

Hugs and my prayers to you and your family.

  211. So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Isobel.. The video is beautiful, both your daughter and little Isabel having as much fun as each other – something you’ll always treasure. My two Westies have just had an extra cuddle. Thank you for sharing with us.
Best wishes to you and your family from across the pond in Scotland.

  212. So sorry for your loss. Pets are definitely a big part of family, and the loss is surely felt. I was smiling, yet crying, watching Isabel and your daughter playing in the leaves – I have similar still photos of my daughter and our pug, Genny. Off to give hugs to my four-legged family members – and hugs to you too!!

  213. Oh, Mary & Family, so sorry. One of the drawbacks of having a pet is that you more than likely will outlive them.
The first time I commented on your blog was when your dear Mozart the cat passed on Feb. 2011. We had many pets and they lived long, happy lives. It is always a sad time but, the smiles of happy memories fill in in time. Big hugs to you dear one. judi

  214. Mary, I am so sorry about the loss of your beloved canine friend, Isabel. May you memories bring you peace.

  215. So sorry for your loss Mary. I too had a beautiful furry little girl that blessed my life for almost 14 years. I called her my first born even though I did not give birth to her. She was my little baby girl as as she progressed into old age she became riddled with arthritis and became blind and deaf and I too had to carry her everywhere. I was with her when she passed and held her close as she took her last breath. She waited for me to return from work. I miss her dearly but I know that she is always with me. It took about 18 months until I was ready to open my heart to a new little one. I’ve now had my new little girl for 7 years and love her to bits. Time will heal your heart and will turn each memory to a smile.
    Thinking of you.

  216. Corinne Somerville

Dear Mary…I know you have already received many messages in support of your loss of Isabel…I wanted to also let you know how very sorry I am and that I’m praying for your family. We had to help our 9 1/2 year old Golden, Dawson out of his pain from cancer in July and I know how deep the pain is and how much you miss these amazes creatures that brought so much joy and comfort into our lives. At times the pain may feel unbearable but know that the pain does ease….with time….please take care of yourself..

  217. Mary, I’m so sorry!!! I just lost my little Reba, (Tea-Cup Poodle), also in my arms! I just can’t shake it off!! We had her for 16 yrs. She was like Family! I’d put her in my Bag, and off we’d go….everywhere together!

  220. Precious memories…so sorry for your loss.

  221. Dear Mary and Family,

Such wonderful memories. May your enjoy your memories of sweet Isabel as her pawprints will be forever on your heart.

    Hugs,
    Ree Nathan

  222. Your story of Isabel brought me to tears. My heart hurts for you. I have lost three pets in three years. But, the unconditional love given, helped me endure the pain of the loss.

I am going to hug my dog, Marky Mark.

    Take care,
    Marlene

  223. I am crying with you Mary. Those of us who have loved and lost our 4-legged babies understand. I hope you have peace knowing you gave Isabel a good life and she died peacefully knowing she was loved. That is much more than is afforded many humans. My thoughts and prayers are are with you for a healing heart for you and your family.m

  224. [email protected]

Those of us who have (or have had) friends like Isabel share your sadness. Our lovely dog Tess is very old and has health issues. Just as you stated we count each day with her a blessed one. And today I will indeed give her an extra long hug. Thank you for sharing your story.

  225. Melody Bakolias

    Christiane

  228. Cheryl McAskill

Blessings, comfort and fond memories to follow you during this tough time. Remember you were a good friend to Isabel as much as she were to you. So sorry for your loss. I pray the Lord’s arms of comfort hug you and hold you.

  229. So sorry for your loss. Our pets are family also. Sending you a hug.

  230. I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing my first dog was so hard, it took 15 years before I felt ready to get another. We’ve now had Dexter for almost 2 years and I know that when it’s time to say goodbye, we’ll all be heartbroken. It’s good that you can now smile as you remember the good times. Take care.

  231. I’m sorry to hear about your beloved Isabel. You eulogized her so well and I could tell, just by following your blog, how special she is in your family. Peace and blessings to you…

  232. Beverly Butterbrodt

I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear Isabel and the emptiness that you feel right now. Like others have mentioned, I also CASE’d your card for my neighbor who has 3 Pugs. She loved it! She framed it!!! Hoping that your tears soon turn to smiles as you fondly remember the happy years shared with Isabel and the joy that she brought to your family.

  233. I am so so sorry for your loss. We lost our dog of 12 years last year and it is truly heartbreaking. We rescued a new dog a few months ago and we love her but she will never take the place of Jackson.

  234. Wendy T in Indiana

My pug Lucy and I send you our sympathies.

  235. So very sorry for the loss of your furry companion. It is always so hard when the day comes and we have to say goodbye. Been there several times and never gets easier. Thoughts are with you.

  236. I am sorry for your loss. Our pets are a big part of our family. Remember all the good times and she will be in your heart forever.

  237. I know that a piece of your heart is very heavy, but the joy you experienced with your wonderful Isabel will be with you always. Even though these transitions are so very difficult, we always know that we are so lucky to share our lives with these special family members for the time that they are with us. I’m sending gentle hugs your way.

  238. Mary, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have followed your blog for a long time and I always enjoyed seeing Isabel in your stamping zone. I have a small pomeranian named Tinker Bell who shares my stamping studio. Our sweet furry friends bring so much love and joy to our family. So when we lose them it leaves a large void. I send you hugs to help you through this difficult time.

  239. Sandy de Ryke

Hi Mary. I too am so sorry for your loss. I saw your card on my Pinterest home page and knew right away it was a pug. I lost my pug, Star, two years ago and when I read your story and saw the sweet baby you lost, I cried all over again. They sure grab a hold of our hearts, don’t they? I wish you a speedy recovery; but, I know it will take a while. God bless you and your family.

  240. My heart just aches for you. May all the memories make you smile a bit.

  241. Helen Schadegg

So very sorry for your loss, Mary. She was very lucky to have been loved by you and your family. Hugs to you in your time of sorrow.

  242. So sorry for you Mary , I understand so much… My so loved pet died six months ago and our family can ?t forget it… We are so sad , it?s a member of our family and it is so quiet without it… Courage !

  243. [email protected]

I am so sorry for your loss. I never had pets growing up and didn’t understand why people would refer to them as “family”. When I found out I couldn’t have children, I went and adopted two cats. It was the best thing that I have ever done for myself. They give love unconditionally and always seem to know when you need some extra love. I am sorry for your loss.
    Heather

  244. Kathy aka Girlygirl777

    Dear Fish Family,

I am truly sorry for your loss. As Dolly Pardon put it in Steel Magnolia’s, ” There is no better emotion than laughter through tears”. That’s how we get through these tough losses. My prayer for you and yours is that God will heal your broken hearts with beautiful memories. I’m thinking of you and hope you can laugh again in the future with another furry friend to love.
    Blessings to you,
    Kathy

  245. So sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family.

  246. Cynthia Tuttle

Hi Mary, I’m so, so sorry for your loss. I am in the same boat with you because I have a sixteen year old dog (baby, best friend, buddy….) who is blind, has serious on going dental problems and is aging poorly too. I am not looking forward to the day that I will have to say goodbye to my baby. Celebrate the life instead of mourning the death. It helps to look at it that way for me and I hope that it helps you. Hugs and kisses to you and your family.

  247. So sorry for your loss. Our dogs leave paw prints on our hearts don’t they?

  248. Sorry for your loss! Pets are an important part of our lives. My last kitty died a year ago and I still miss her. I look forward to the Rainbow Bridge to bring my beloved pets back to me!

    Feeling your pain.

  249. Mary, I am so sorry. Losing a pet is like losing a member of your family. I’ve been there and know how you feel. We know now that she suffers no more.

  250. Sincere sympathy for the loss of your beloved pet and family member.

  251. So sorry to hear of your loss of Isabel. I just got in from being out of the country again (it’s 2:28am) yet my loving pets, 4 wonderful dogs and 5 cuddly cats, all came running when they heard Mummy’s keys in the door…such wonderful, unconditional love they give…with tears in my eyes I have given each an extra hug, in honor of your Isabel. I think I will let everyone sleep on the bed tonight!

  252. I am so sorry for your loss, I know excatly how you are feeling at the moment. A couple of years ago I had to get our cat Rambo put down, he had been healthy and fine until he came out from the bedroom. I can still now hear him cry he was draging his back legs along the ground, rushed him to the vets and they said he had a blood clot that had lodged in his spine cutting the blood supply to his back legs. Nothing they could do about it, I held him close when they put him down. We buried him in the garden and he is with us always.

  253. I am so sorry to read your sad news that little Isabelle has gone over the rainbow bridge….. she was obviously such a big part of your family and well loved….. we have 3 cats now but over the past years have lost 2 cats, one was blind also, each time we lost one was heartbreaking but thinking about the good times we had made it slightly better and giving a home to 3 unwanted cats helped as well…. my thoughts are with you and your family… x

  254. Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. Isabel looked so much like my precious Porsche, who is going to be put to sleep tomorrow. We have struggled with the decision, but she is 15 and has all the same health issues as precious Isabel. Your post helped me feel so much better about what we need to do. Thank you. God bless.

  255. Omg Mary I am so sorry for your loss. The way you stated how Isabel lived her last few moments was so poetic. It’s great that you have so much footage of your little companion. I know there will be a small vacancy in your heart forever, but just remember how much Isabel loved YOU as well, and how you gave her a great life. (We’ve never met, but I read your blog every day and used to have a dog that was like my “child.” I can’t imagine the emotions you’re going thru but I hope you can feel the love of so many stampers!)

  256. Patti Anguiano

Oh, Mary. What sad news. As one of my favorite stampin up sympathy stamp states. “May your memories bring you peace.” To lose a furry family member is always hard. God Bless, and love the card you made and love your blog. Take care.

  260. Mary, tears are flowing as I write this. Thank you for sharing this about your precious Isabel. What a precious companion she must have been for you, for the past 14 years. There is just nothing like the unconditional love of a pet! My heart just aches for your loss, but I know you are comforted by wonderful memories. Bless you, and rest in peace sweet Isabel.

  262. Carol Carriveau

Oh Mary, I am so very sorry for your family’s loss…our dear and beloved pets become such a part of our everyday families and everything we do. Your video is a beautiful tribute and so cute the way she chased your daughter by just diving into the pile of leaves. Big hugs to all of you….

  263. Carol Carriveau

Sorry, I forgot to compliment you on your fabulous dog card…another wonderful tribute!

I “read” love you when you bathed Isabel and brought her outside for the last time. I felt how your heart broke when she died in your arms. I know too well what these moments feel like. She had a blessed life with you.

  265. Cindie McDuffee

My deepest sympathies to you and your family, Mary. How quickly the time flies with our loved ones. May memories of happy times fill your heart and help dry the tears.

  266. Rebecca Bacon

As an owner of two pugs, Lily a fawn color and Cole, a black color, I cried through your video. May memories bring you peace.

  267. I am so very sorry to hear about Isabel. I remember when you had to say goodbye to your kitty. It is never ever an easy thing to do. Knowing she waited for you to hold her while she made her trip to heaven, must be a comfort to you. God Bless you and your family. My prayers to you all. Hugs ..

  268. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your video was a beautiful memory. Sending you thoughts of peace and comfort.

  269. Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. My sympathies for the loss of your beloved and beautiful Isabel.

  270. Until now just a reader and now need to write – sorry for your loss. I cry in front of my computer and remember all the lovely dogs in my life.

    Hugs from Croatia

    Vesna

  271. So sorry for your loss, Mary. I’m glad to hear that the tears are helping to heal and that your happy memories are helping to comfort.

    Warm hugs, Eileen~*

  272. My sympathies to you and your family. We had to put our 12 1/2 year old yellow lab down 2 months ago and it was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. He was part of our family since day one, so I understand what you are going through. You’ll see and hear your sweet Isabel for quite a while and it’ll be a hard up and down battle of emotions, but the bouts of pain do lessen, and those memories will make you smile and laugh. One of my favorite quotes that has helped me is this one: “Do not cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”. Thank you for sharing your video. I’m sure it’s just a glimpse into the wonderful life you all shared together.

    Stampin’ hugs,
    Jenny

  273. Mary, so sorry to hear of your loss. Your tribute to her is beautiful. Blessing to you and your family.

So very sorry for your loss. My sister and her family lost their 13 year old chocolate lab last week. It has been very hard for her husband. The love of a dog is a wonderful gift.

  275. Your post has me in tears, Mary. I’m sorry for the loss of your sweetie.

  276. Thanks for sharing. I too lost my beloved lab in June and know what you’re going thru. Hang in there. Thoughts and prayers to you all.
