  1. I love going to the parade and honoring all our veterans. The one’s who have given me the freedom to be there. My son had the honor of carrying the flag with his K-Kids service group from school. It was a proud moment and I was grateful he was carrying the flag tall and strong.

  4. Camping & stamping! I always bring along some supplies to create my scrapbook lo’s for the camping trip and make them right there at the picnic table. If they end up getting a little grunged up, all the better. There’s noting like creating out in the middle of nature!!

  6. Our over 55 community is filled with Veterans, so this is a special time. We have a ceremony to honor all veterans and then a parade with decorated convertibles and golf carts. It then culminates with a cook out with tradional holiday food and the funds raised from the cookout go to Hope For Heroes. It is a great event that honors all Vets and their loved ones.

  9. My favorite Memorial Day weekend activity is to spend it with family. We will smoke some meat and enjoy our married children and their spouses. Grandchild number one is on the way. We will also spend some quiet time remembering the men who fought and died to protect our country. Before the kids arrive we will spend some time working in the yard and then hop in the not tub to soak our tired old bones! We purchased some baby clothes and we are excited to see our daughter and son-in-law’s faces when they open them. That is such a wonderful time in a young couple’s life!

The grand finale being the parade on Monday with all of the school children, bands, scouts,VFW, fire trucks, horses etc. the parade all marches to the oldest of the 2 Cemetarys for a remembrance ceremony for the fallen soldiers. The children carry flowers in the parade to put on the soldiers graves to decorate. Then we all spend time with family at a cookout. That is a family tradition that I will be during. 264. Stamping with a little pampering for sure. And a movie marathon…gotta have a movie marathon. Add in time remembering the reason for the holiday and the people I’ve known who’ve given service and it’s a perfect weekend.
When I lived closer to family we used to spend an afternoon of Memorial Day weekend at the cemetery cleaning up family graves (and their neighbors if they needed it) and sharing a picnic with grandma and grandpa. Now most of the family I shared those times with are gone themselves and I hope that their neighbors families are looking with fondness at them on a special day.

Thanks Mary for sharing the candy and the thoughts of a fun weekend.
    Hugs and blessings.

  266. This weekend we are home with two of our grandchildren, ages 8 (boy) and 11 (girl). Their parents’ anniversary was the 23rd, so they are on a much deserved and needed ‘get-a-way’. We were sitting around the kitchen table and they made cards for the anniversary to give to Mom and Dad when they get back.
I was designing something masculine for a Father’s day gift for a church that we volunteer our skills to.
Extra time with family and creating cards, what more could I want? 🙂

Now, I put flags out in front of our house and look for a parade in the area to go to. Since I am no longer in my childhood state, I like to get together with my children, BBQ, and go to the Veterans Memorial in another town so that I can feel that I am honoring those who fought so hard for our freedom.

We thought the best way to honor them was to see a game which they both loved.

So I will be MAJOR cleaning this weekend. It would be kinda nice to relax if I get a chance though.

Now we live in Moore, OK I am hoping to spend the weekend working on cards for those who lost homes, just a way to show them they are not forgotten through this disaster. We are fortunate to have our lives and our home. My hubby who is active duty Air Force has been helping salvage things at one of his deployed troop?s home. We are thanking God that the tornado didn?t hit my sons? school, since we were all in the building, except my hubby who was in our shelter at our home. It came very close though. Just feel very blessed this Memorial weekend, knowing I have a place to rest my head and 3 sons to hug and a wonderful husband who is trying to help the best he can. I wish I could help more, but being at home with 3 small boys makes that a little hard.

Mary, thank you for all your wonderful creative ideas. I think you are very sweet! I love the wow tutorials! Thanks for everything! Blessings and Happy Stamping!

We take hikes, stop along the rivers to play in the water, and I love the family time around the campfire and sharing stories of those that have passed on before us. My husband and family all served in the military, so appreciative of them and thankful of their service to our country! Of course, all this summed up with pictures and journaling to scrapbook next week-end is the memories part!

  661. I love camping and hubby and I used to start the camping season on Memorial weekend, but since his MS has gotten worse, we are unable to do that, so this weekend I plan on making birthday cards for the BRAK on SplitCoastStampers. I also plan on doing some work in the flowerbeds, birdwatching, a little bit of shopping, and just plain relaxing. I notice that I’ve been getting irritated easier and more frequently at work, which is my cue that I’m due for a vacation or just need some relaxing time, so I’m hoping this weekend can fix that as vacation has to wait until September (ugg!).

I love the cool crisp mornings, the smell of coffee and bacon permeating our camper! There is nothing like sitting around the campfire in the evening. This memorial weekend, I will not be doing that thought, unfortunately! But I will be working in my craft room!
Hope you have a great weekend!
