A Special Card for My Caroline

Stampin up stampinup stamp it card idea punch catalog demonstrator blog
My daughter (and only child) started college this fall which resulted in my husband and I becoming empty nesters (“sniff”).  You’ll see more “miss you” and “love you” cards than ever before, including today’s card.  Isn’t this sentiment perfect for sending a child off to college!

STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:

  • I heat embossed the tree and sentiment in black.  It really makes the silhouette pop.

  • Tiny hearts were cropped using the Stampin’ Up! Owl Builder Punch.

  • A pearl on the center of the button is simple and sweet.

  1. Mary, I love your card it is so sweet and simple. The heart in the tree are perfect.
The swing reminds me of my daughter who always loves to go on a swing. When we took my daughter to her college in Massachusetts it was five hours away. My husband had to stop the car he was crying so hard. Then a week later 911 hit. They had to shut the college down. Because Kelly was so far away she had to stay in her dorm. We never thought we would ever see her again. One of the planes came from the airport right
near her college. It was very difficult for all of us. Kelly grew and so did we all with this experience. Kelly has since moved back home again We have a wonderful mother- father – brother relationship. Hugs to you.

  2. Beautiful card Mary! I missed my mom terribly when I went to college. That was back before cell phones really took off and I remember running up $300 phone bills. Thank goodness for texting and facebook now!

  5. Great card, Mary. I love that set although I keep putting off buying it for some weird reason. Just today I sent off a care package to my daughter who also started college, in CO. Remember that our girls were on swim team and attended same HS? Hard to think that time has passed and our babies are off into the world. Aahhhh….my heart is with you! It’s great she’s come home already:) Hugs to you!

  6. Mary, that is a perfect card. It is an exciting, learning and adventuresome time for both of you. Life is ever changing – always. She will have so many new things to share with you. I’ll bet her roommate (if she has one) would love a card to:) You will be just fine:)

  7. This set is on my Wish List and I like the simplicity of your card design, Mary. If you tucked this in your daughter’s “off to college bag” I’ll bet you shed a few tears, as perhaps she did when she unpacked her bag. It’s always an emotional time.

  9. My daughter leaving the nest is what started my stamping career. Somehow sending cards was therapy for me. It was a good connection with Beth and I am sure it will be for you and Caroline too. Beautiful card too Mary!

  10. This card is lovely, your daughter will treasure it forever, I am sure. I am sure she will have a whole collage of cards from Mom by the time she finishes college. They all grow up way too fast! I’m thankful she’s only two hours away! And, love the hearts in the tree to send even more love, as only a Mom could do!

  14. Love the card; another stamp set I need to purchase. This is why I became a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator so I could make beautiful cards and send them to my daughter. She does receive the most cards in her unit and they are all different.

  15. Hi Mary,
My heart feels for you. My daughter is starting on her PhD, so it’s been a LONG time since she moved out, but I still miss her so very much everyday!!! When your kids are as wonderful as ours are it’s never easy to see them go! I’m glad that your daughter is so close, it’s great that you can be there in 2 hours if she needs you. Mine is on the other side of the country, but at least that’s better than than the year she spent in Singapore or when she was in Africa!!! I love, love, love your card. It’s funny, I never even noticed that sentiment in the catalog before! Thanks for all of your inspiration. I look forward to my Inbox every morning!!!
    Peace, Love & Joy,
    Joyce

Don’t worry Mary, you’ll get through this, it’s never easy but just keep creating those beautiful cards- it’s Art Therapy!!! Best wishes to you and your family!

  18. Lovely card, Mary. I’m glad you saw Caroline this weekend…my kids are still young but the thought of them leaving makes me sad, too. It’s good, normal, and the right thing for them to grow up, but we don’t have to like it. Glad you are surrounded by stampin Pal’s who love you!

  19. Beautiful card – captures the feeling of sending your child off on her own perfectly; brought a tear to my eye thinking about my daughter who lives on the West coast. Haven’t seen her since Xmas…. and while one does get used to being an empty nester, it is still hard to keep saying “goodbye”.

  23. Very appropriate card for your Caroline. Love how you used Crystal Effects to “pretty up” your little flower with a pearl in the middle. Did you drop the pearl in the center of the flower after you covered it with Crystal Effects? Such a lovely touch for such a lovely card. Thanks for sharing Girlfriend!

  24. Beautiful card and you will be surprised that, while missing her, you will enjoy the empty nest, too. And, then, remember they often DO come back and come and sometimes even come back again. It’s all good!

  25. Your card is beautiful! I will also be making a lot of “miss you” cards as my oldest left for college Aug. 18. I sent her off with a box of handmade cards for different occasions, so she could keep in touch with her friends (ok, and with me too!) I included stamps and return address labels that I printed with her college address. But thank Heaven for smartphones and texting!

  26. Perfect card for the college student. Being an empty nester is a transition that I don’t look forward to. I am a semi empty nester. My son has moved from Michigan to Utah and my daughter walked out the door about 10 minutes ago to start her senior year of high school. I’ll be savoring every minute!!

  27. What a lovely card and perfect sentiment. The best of everything is what we hope our children have. There are some aspects of being empty nesters that you may enjoy so I wish you and your husband the best of everything. Charmaine, mother of three, grandmother of 13. I still cry when one of the kids enter kindergarten or college!

  28. A beautiful, touching card – I’m certain you daughter will love it.

My son recently moved a four and half hour car journey away to start his first job after graduating from University in June – empty nesting is so hard!! I feel like someone has surgically removed part of me. On one hand you are really pleased that they are getting on in life but on the other, you want them to be babies again.

Best wishes from across the pond.

    Ann
