Twitterpated Appreciated & A New Video, Too!

Stampin up birthday card occasions mini catalog demonstrator video tutorial
On the cusp of the 2012, I thought it would be a good time to resolve to become a little "greener" as part of my paper crafting passion.  I will be making just as many cards–most of my cards have a destination in mind.  However, what about our handmade beauties making a trip to more than one recipient?

Yes, yes . . . I have seen the episode of Seinfeld about the consequences of "regifting."  However, passing along the suggestion to resend our creations ("regifting") may be a smart way to add longevity to the "heart and soul" you transformed into paper (and one less purchase the recipient has to make the next time they need a card)!

Today's video (evolved from a "1 Minute to WOW" into about 4 minutes 🙂 shows you a Stampin' Up! personalized stamp (Family Tree) that I customized for exactly the purpose of making the regifting suggestion.  It goes on the back of a removable insert.  The front of the removable insert is for your personal message or an interior stamp.  NOTE:  Stampin' Up! personalized stamps cannot be ordered on-line.  If you are interested, please email me your order information here.  The personalized stamp details are on page 172 of the Idea Book & Catalog.

  1. Mary that stamp idea is so great! I am definitely a fan of recycling and re-gifting – I’m sending 150 cards for charity away tomorrow in fact, that I’ve “made” by mounting retired swap card fronts to new bases. I couldn’t face throwing them away (I hate to think of my work in the trash too!) but I can let them go knowing they will brighten someone else’s day one more time. You’ve shown me a way to take it a step further, I will have to start doing what you’ve done with yours, when designing my own cards, from now on. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

  2. Such a great idea! I know that not everyone keeps the cards I make which just breaks my heart to think all that work might be in the trash. This is a perfect way to hopefully extend the life of our creations and also it is two gifts in one…a card for the original person to enjoy and then later a gift they can give to someone else. Brilliant!

  3. The insert is removable (not adhered). The front is Whisper White card stock (waiting for a handwritten message or a stamped greeting) and the back is Pear Pizzazz card stock with the “regifting” message.

  4. My dear friend, Sandy, told me she loved my cards so much she was re-purposing them by sending them to her family and friends she knew would love them. I started putting an insert so it would make it easier for her to do this lovely process. Will check out a stamp. That will make it even easier. THANKS!

  5. Mary,
    The girls in my group and I almost always put our messages onto an insert that reflects the cover of the card [a reminder to keep], and we encourage resending the cards to the next person. This doesn’t work that well with my Mom though … she keeps mine in a special drawer! = – }

Great video!! Getting swaps ready for Regional and making a “notebook” to take as suggested on the SU site. Hope to see you before you head home from Leadership. y Prospero Nuevo Ano! [how to get that tilde in the right place!!]

  6. Great idea! Many times when I hand deliver a card, I do not sign it in case she would like to pass it on to another friend. I like your idea better. Must get me a stamp like that too! Thanks for sharing.

  7. Mary,
What a great idea. I am a newbie in card making and stamping, and it so hard for to make cards, etc. because I don’t want to waste my pretty paper, as well as the thought of where it goes when it gets to the recipient. One question, which I might have missed in the video, is the original insert, the one to your recipient, not attached as well? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks again for the great idea.

  8. Thank you for spreading the word about recycling!!! I have been sending most of my cards this way and I’ve never had anyone not reuse them…we’ve come a long way since Seinfeld…thank goodness!

  9. I agree with Cookie; I have reused by putting the front onto another card, but this idea is great for those non crafty people that you send cards to. They won’t have to do a thing, but sign and mail. And the recipient still gets to keep your sentiment that you sent. Super idea!

  14. Re-gifting? YES! Already do it with some people anyway by writing on a post-it note. But creating a special insert with permission for the recipient to re-use the card is awesome! Love the personalized stamp. TFS!

  15. Pay it forward . . . nice idea, Jamie. Another reader suggested adding postage to an extra envelope so it’s ready to regift . . . turns a card into an even more valuable gift. Hugs, M

  16. Love this idea and your card! I think I will be placing my personalized stamp on my next order! This may be just what I need to push me to actually SENDING the cards I make instead of keeping them. I hate the idea that the recipient will just toss all my hard work. Now they can pass it on! I may even take it one step further and include an extra insert or two for them to pay it forward as well.

  17. Hi Jean: The message is the little nudge to the recipient that regifting is OK. People who don’t make cards may be more comfortable with this idea than those who do. That’s cool, too. Hugs, M

  20. I agree with the regifting, I hate to think that my hard work has ended up in the trash or in a drawer where no one will see it ever again….I would be honored if someone regifted my creation.

  21. Brilliant Mary! I’ve been putting my greetings on a removeable piece for awhile now and hoping that people would feel comfortable regifting or at least giving them the option to do so. But a stamp telling them its okay…perfect. Thanks for starting the discussion.

  22. I can say FIRST HAND that this stamp is seriously an adorable stamp. I received a beautiful card from Mary this week and her message to me was written on an insert piece that had this stamp impressed on the back of the insert piece – and now I have Mary’s original card to re-gift and forward on to someone special on my card giving list. I seriously now have to order this stamp for the back of my card giving inserts. BRILLIANT MARY! Many thanks for sharing – but more importantly – Many thanks for my beautiful card!
