Pals Guest Artist Kris K.

Eeek
My Digital Studio, Stampin' Up!'s digitally cool software for cardmaking, scrapbooking, calendars and more, gains more momentum each week with new downloads and fresh ideas (see http://.mydigitalstudio.net).  Personally, I love the opportunity to be able to mass produce a project in less time ("think" holiday cards), add Stampin' Up! brads, ribbon and embellishments (called a "hybrid") and incorporate photos into projects with ease.

Kris Kilcoyne, a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, embraced My Digital Studio (MDS) long before it caught my serious attention.  She's my "go to girl" for MDS inspiration.  For today's post, she shares absolutely charming Halloween artwork that she intends to send as e-cards.  They are reflective of the minimalist style Kris is known for!  See more of Kris's work on her Kween Bee Kreations Blog.

PROJECT ABOVE:

Stamp set (MDS):  Spooky Bingo Bits (127616)
Ink (MDS):  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Perfect Plum, Old Olive, So Safron, Ruby Red, Peach Parfait, Pacific Point
Tools (MDS):  1 1/4" Circle Punch, Oval Punch

Overview from Kris:  These 3 1/2" x 5" greeting cards were created using My Digital Studio (MDS) and the Spooky Bingo Bits digital download.

Using digital punches, I created "pops" of color by placing the punches behind the digital stamp images.  I like to use the digital cards as ecards.  Being able to send them to friends & family through email is not only easy, but fun!

  1. Kris, these are great! You have definitely made it past any learning curves with MDS. I especially love the ‘Eek!’ one, very cute! And your style is so ‘just right.’ With MDS I think it would be tempting to over-do because of the availability of elements and you have mastered the fine art of designing clean! 🙂

  3. Kris’s work is awesome. I love the CAS simple look she uses with MDS. I am, like Katy, studying up on MDS and experimenting too. I have ideas that I cannot quite execute. I think it could be a real time saver. I see it as appealing to the younger stamper who I am having join me some now.

  4. I haven’t taken the MDS plunge yet either, and not sure if I will anytime soon. But I LOVE what Kris has down with the Spooky Bingo Bits – this has turned out to be one of my favorite stamp sets. I’m NOT a big fan of Halloween but I LOVE THIS SET!! Kris has given me some great ideas and some great inspiration!

  5. I have not gotten MDS yet because I am afraid I won’t know how to use it to make such fun things as KRIS did. Can she tell us exactly what she did with any ONE of the cards she made? It would help us see if WE could do it also!!

  7. AWE, Katy – you are so sweet! I haven’t done classes yet, but hope to in the near future. I’m really trying to hone my MDS skills before I share them across the board. Stay tuned! 🙂

  8. Great cards Kris! Hubby bought me MDS for Christmas last year or the year before and I love it! I’m not a pro yet but venture out more and more. For those who like traditional cards, MDS is still great to have. I like how you can resize any stamp to fit your project. Sometimes I print out just an image (or print a whole page to have more to use later or for mass production) and add that to a “traditional” card that still has ribbon, punches, bling, etc. It’s great to be able to download a stamp set that you want “right now”! I have found wonderful MDS project ideas on Kris’ blog. Some video classes would be great Kris, hint hint.

  9. Seriously LOVE the cards Kris created – Thanks for sharing with us! I haven’t taken the MDS plunge yet – but I’m one of those that drag my feet and then join the wagon after it’s much established (ie-Shabby Chic and Vintage!). Keep nudging me because I’m seriously at the doorstep of joining the MDS journey with you!

  11. Hi Katy: We can take the MDS journey together. I’m a 3-D card making kind of gal . . . but the MDS possibilities with photos, creating DSP, larger/smaller SU images AND creating hybrids (so I can combine MDS with my ribbon, brads, etc.) IS very attractive. Hugs, M

  12. Kris, these e-cards are wonderful inspiration especially to someone like me who has taken the plunge but has not developed ANY expertise with MDS! Do you give classes? Thanks for sharing your talent with us. I will be checking out your blog for further inspiration and encouragement!

Mary, I honestly had not gotten far enough into MDS to consider the e-card potential! I was more interested in using MDS for hybrid cards as you mentioned. The ability to create your own DSP intrigues me as well as manipulating sizes of punches and stamp images. I have SLOWLY perused some of the tutorials found on the MDS website but still need more instruction. I am hoping your readers can point me to additional tutelage resources. Help….. Please… 🙂

  14. I have not “plunged” and don’t think I ever will. Do love some of the stuff but most of it looks store bought and not homemade and that is what I like about my cards….no two are alike and they are “homey”…do like these cards tho…just not my style

  15. I took the plunge when MDS was first released and I LOVE it! I’ve used the cards I’ve created desktop images as well as e-cards. The possibilities are endless.
