The inside looks sort of like a sponge and it has a chocolate coating. It is hard though. I had found a recipe when I was in high school and thought I would try and make it. I think I was barred from the kitchen for awhile after that! It has baking soda and vinegar and it foamed up and over the pan on the burners and then harded on there before I could get it wiped up!

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Love your blog!

But I have a very soft place in my heart (or stomach) for FRUITCAKE! At one point in my life I was living in a shack in the mountains and getting very little to eat. At Christmas time someone gave me a fruitcake (probably because they didn’t want it ;-), and it never tasted so good before. Ever since then eating fruitcake fills me with a warm Christmas spirit. Just in case you want to try it:

    Preheat oven to 200

Pop 6 qts popcorn and salt (i use closer to 8 qts. depends on how thick you want the coating)

    1 c packed brown sugar
    1/2 c Karo syrup
    1/4 t vanilla
    1/4 t cream of tartar
    2 sticks butter

Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. (make sure it’s come to a rolling boil BEFORE you start to time it) Boil for 1 minute.

ADD 1 t. baking soda and stir well. becomes foamy.

Pour over popcorn and MIX WELL. (may add pecans)

Put onto buttered cookie sheets and bake for 1 hour at 200.
Cool and then break into pieces.

    Enjoy!

  384. My favorite Christmas candy was always peppermint straws (hard outside with soft mint centers) but haven’t found them in recent years. I always love any chocolate covered marshmallow thing; santas, Easter bunnys, hearts, etc. They are even better when a little stale. Russell Stover makes the very best.

  387. Wow! Thanks for the chance to win this great blog candy. I don’t know if it is Christmas candy; however, I always think of chocolate turtles during this time. I used to get a box every Christmas. I have asked Santa to help me watch my waistline, so I don’t put it on my list anymore. Hee hee. I could devour a box any time.

  389. It isn’t Christmas without ribbon candy. I like the really thin candy in spearmint. Brings back memories of childhood Christmases when I got my cowgirl suit or the year I got my metal doll house. Smile, smile, smile. Those were the days when an orange in your stocking was heaven. Imagine, an orange in the middle of winter. LOL I’m showing my age.

Gotta love the homemade peanut brittle that makes the rounds in our circle of family and friends this time of year — it doesn’t sound like holiday candy, but we make and give away so much of it (and can you imagine EAT?) that it’s known as “Christmas Crack”!!! Love your blog and the chance for some non-caloric “candy”!

  393. Ummm, your Blog Candy looks delicious!! My favorite edible Christmas Candy would be my sister’s No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Drops. She only makes them at Christmas and my children (all over the age of 30!) and I look forward to eating it every year.

  394. Oh how I love this time of year. I love to bake. My favorite is fudge. This is the only time of the year that I make it. I make about 20 pounds of it and give it as gifts. (And I do keep a stash for myself.)

Actually, I go crazy for Hersheyettes (like M&Ms, only made by Hershey) that are available here at Christmas time. Can’t go in to Target without getting a tube (topped by candy cane curve piece) between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  408. So many of the various manufacturers add dark chocolate or mint flavors to their line up this time of year and almost any of those get my vote. On the other hand Harry & David put out some of their most scrumptious treats this time of year – truffles, Moose Munch and more…impossible to pass up. Now if only the Girl Scouts would sell Thin Mints at Christmas my Christmas Candy Dreams would be complete…Thin Mints really don’t count as cookies do they?

Oh my just thinking about all those goodies I’m going to have to fast for a few days…luckily your sweet goodness here on your blog is fat free, guilt free and 100% inspirational. Now if only you could figure out how I can burn calories just surfing your pages – LOL!

Hugs and Holiday Blessings and thanks for the Sweet offering – Jean
