2 New Videos: Get Organized!

Let's just say I really, really like my paper crafting supplies in the ideal spot.  Organization is a passion for me and I'm always in pursuit of the best way to have things ready to go and easy to put away.

Stampin up paper storage stampin pretty blog

Instead of a card today, I'm serving up a couple videos.  The first (above) shares a nice peek at how I store my 8.5 x 11 card stock.  Beware . . . there's a "monkey cam" element to this one.  I'm a one-man show so it's a bit wiggly.  The Stampin' Up! charts I used for keeping colors organized are available for download below.

NOTE:  The Decorative Label Extra Large Punch I referred to will be available Sept.1 when the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog goes live.

Here's a link to more details on the Clear Project Files I used for my card stock scraps.

The second video shares tips on how to make better use of your Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog along with tips on building your own punch template.

Please let me know with a comment at the end of this post if these videos were helpful!

Keep an inventory of your Stampin' Up! colors, including card stock, markers, and ink pads using these new color charts. YOU add:  from left to right, a square of card stock, a squiggle of marker then an image stamped with matching ink. The bottom image can be used to print labels for your ink pads.

Feel free to print these charts for your own personal use.  Just click the image to download.

  3. Hi Mary

Thanks so much for the organizing ideas!! I am wondering if you used a label maker for the names of the punches that are on each card?

I am making my set today. What an awesome idea!

  5. Hi Mary, I love your website & your gorgeous projects etc. I was able to watch your video on organizing your card stock but the video on tips for the catalog wouldn’t play at all. I just wanted to inform you so you can fix it.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks so much for your tutorials Mary, they are really a great help. Love the spiral binding. I have been using the same idea for my card scraps and it is the only way to go. I loved your templates for the card stock and will be implementing that asap.

  7. Hi Sara:

I use lipless clear, stackable trays for 12 x 12 paper. I purchased them at the Scrapbook Store (on-line). It’s a bit of an investment but well worth it in my opinion.

How do you store your 12×12 paper? That’s a bit of a dilema for me. I would love to hear what you do for this size. SU DSP is my absolute favorite!!

  9. You should get a commission from the supply company for those poly folders. They are out of stock and I wouldn’t be surprised if your blog readers bought them ALL!!

Your storage is amazing – as are your projects. Your blog is one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing!

  10. OMG, are you kidding me??? These tips, as with all of your tips, are great!!!! I made my own paper racks using the coated wire cubes they sell for kids toy storage & lots of tie-wraps and I use the gallon-size Ziplocs to keep my scraps in. I also used the Tab Punch to punch a label of each color to mark my shelves. I will be doing the punch index soon, now. Thanks for all you do….

  15. Hi Mary, you are so inventive and talented. I have gone over and over what to do with my DSP and Card Stock and still haven’t come up with a decent solution. Oh, how I would love to have that shelving that you have. I just love organization, it makes everything so much easier. I am so organized in the rest of my house and life but when it comes to my Business and Crafting everything just falls apart. Help me please! Thanks for sharing the video’s, I really enjoyed them, but I still need Help!

  16. Thanks once again for some great tips Mary. I especially love the punch templates. I got my IBC bound for the first time this year, and am wishing I had done so previously. I had my card stock all set out in different colour families which I will now have to change with the introduction of the new families.

  17. I really enjoyed your videos. You are “easy listenin'” and give valuable helpful ideas. If you had a fan club I would be in it. I always look forward to seeing what you are up to each day. Do you ever sleep? Do you ever run out of ideas? How do you store 12 X 12 paper?

  20. Your videos are SO INSPIRING!!!! I too love neat, clean and organized space. I LOVE the idea of spiral binding the catalog. I made my own ‘punch template’ a long time ago, albeit from cardstock. I have downloaded the color swatch templates- that’s a great idea that I’ll put into practice right away (who needs to eat dinner tonight anyway!) and I think I’ll make a 2nd copy to travel with me so I always know what colors I have at home.
Congrats, too, on being a top 10 demonstrator. With your talent and dedication, it’s easy to see how you’ve accomplished that. Keep on creating & inspiring us 🙂

  24. Hi Doris: I have many of the same pieces of furniture and storage as the Madison “zone.” If you click on my “Stampin’ Pretty Zone” on the left side bar, you’ll see pix of my new Tucson space (near the end of the posts).

I have a new dream to have a little studio in back . . . still in the brain but hope to put it on paper, then mortar someday.

  25. Hi Benjaman: I stored paper this way both in Madison (humid summers) and Tucson (dry) with no problem. I wouldn’t store them by a window (sun) or heating/cooling vent as a safe measure. Doesn’t OCD stadn for “Organize, Clean and Delegate?” LOL. Hugs, M

I do many organizational things the same way you do, but mine are amongst clutter. My work space is a disaster and I am realizing that it’s cramping my creative brain as well as my creative space. Got to take your lead and get more organized! You are such a good role model!

today! I dropped hubby and grandson at the

to get my catalog bound — they said the way

SO, tomorrow I head for a Office Depot!!
Tonight I’ll print the templates you provided!

  36. Mary – the videos on organization ideas are great! I too need to be organized – for my scraps I have a tote with manilla pocket folders that are labelled by each color and by collections. My space is in the part of our basement that was the kids’ playroom – they have mostly grown up (1 in HS still), so there is a lot of totes of their toys and books sitting around – my goal is to clean out my large storeroom of all the junk and put the totes from the playroom in there – then the space will be open for me to organize my supplies better and to have a work space for my club gals and for classes. I would love to have some paper racks for that size and for 12×12 paper as well. Thanks!

  40. Enjoyed the tips in the videos but my favorite is the scrap storage and binding the book. What happens to the bound edge of the catalog; do they cut that off? Sorry for the dumb question but I have a tendency to analyze things. I do plan on having that done though. Thanks for sharing your great ideas–keep them coming!

  49. Good job, Mary! I have had my catalogs bound and covered for several years now and I love it. Your paper storage is great…I have to keep mine in a file cabinet, but I do file my scraps like you do. I agree that it makes it easier to use them, since they seem to multiply like rabbits! Thanks for all your great tips, and most of all, for sharing them with your readers.

  50. Thanks so much for the videos! I love your paper storage. Don’t think that is doable for me at the moment, given my limited space, but I will keep that in mind. I hope to move to a bigger space in the not to distant future. I really loved the 2nd video with the bound catalog (that will be done IMMEDIATELY!) and the punch templates. Great ideas…thanks for sharing!

  51. Mary, thanks for sharing your organizational tips. I really like the binding idea for the catalog! That is definitely something that I will check into at the office supply store in my neighborhood. I have several punches and your windows sample ring will be a great way to work with them. I do not have a good system for my cardstock/paper scraps and love the idea of clear folders for keeping them all contained and with their matching cardstock. Thank you for such a great website. I look forward to seeing what you post each day.

  52. I just love the videos! They are so helpful and informative. Your idea of using the plastic sleeves for scraps is great! It is the best idea I have seen yet! And the binding of your catalog – LOVE IT! I think I might get that done today. I look at the catalog all the time and having it open flat is a great idea! thank you for taking the time to do this!

  53. Great videos! Nice paper storage but I have always worried about the effects of humidity on storing cardstock so openly. One question though, what are window sheets? Is that something that can be bought at an office supply store? Oh, and binding the catalog is pure genius! Made my little OCD heart skip a beat! Thks.

  57. Hello Mary: WOW!!!!! those two videos really opened my eyes. I do have a couple of vertical storage racks for the paper, that have 24 spaces each. I bought them at Hobby Lobby and they are great but, the idea of putting the scraps of paper in those clear envelopes was absolutely genious!!!!! I had my scraps in small plastic boxes but they take up a lot of space. The second video for the punches is also a fantastic idea, I’m going to do that ASAP, because when I use a sentiment stamp, I don’t know if it will fit on the punch I want and this way I’ll know in advance what punch to use. Thank you for always thinking of ways to help all of us be organized and creative.
    Maria.
PS. I finally have the $$$ for my Big Shot!!!! Yippie!!
