Have you tried your hand at a joyfold card? It's a simple concept . . . two cards, one larger than the other, intersect to create a whole new look. Here's a link to a tutorial I shared in an earlier post (with two more joyfold samples for you to view). Jason Casper (Jason's Stampin' Pad), one of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, produced a wonderful example of a joyfold card in this post which got my wheels turning to try my own.
My smaller card (with the cake) isn't the exact dimension as the tutorial (and I mailed it to my good friend without measuring–oops). However, feel free to experiment. Just about any size will accomplish this look.
Check out what's "under the hood" (above). Sweet and simple interior, no?
I'm really hooked on Playful Pieces, the new Hostess Level 3 stamp set from the Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog. DID YOU KNOW hostess benefits were available with your on-line order? Team up with a few stamping friends and reap the benefits of Stampin' Up!'s Hostess Rewards program or ask me how I can help you can do a catalog workshop.
- Blushing Bride is a luscious new In Color. It's a slightly muted pink and takes on a new life when combined with Soft Suede. It will be available July 1 with the new catalog.
- The fun and feminine quote from Favorite Thoughts (Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog) delivers the perfect message in the interior to complement the "party hearty" sentiment outside.
- Using the Clear-Mount version of Playful Pieces, I was able to "build" my cake stand (two shapes) and candles/flames.
- The cake is cropped from one of the playful pattern stamps in the set.

Thanks for your post. Your joy fold card inspired me to make these cards. http://creativedistraction.blogspot.com/2010/07/owls.html

i love pink and brown!!!
Love it! Perfect color combination! So beautiful and unique!
oh, that is a great pink…can’t wait to get my new color fix!!:) beautiful card as usual friend!!
i noticed that there are five “In colors” in this new catalog. No, of course I don’t have it; I just meant from the samples I’v seen online. Is five correct? It has always been six, and I wanted to make sure. I love all of them from what I’ve seen, and being from SC, my favorite would have to be Peach Parfait. I’m envying your dry heat in AZ, while we’re sweltering in 98 degrees and high humidity.
Stunning card! Pink and brown is one of my favorite color combinations.
The card is BEAUTIFUL Mary! I too love that color combination – I’m going to have to give it a try myself. I also love how you used Playful Pieces. I also got that set on the preorder but haven’t played with it yet.
Thank you so much for mentioning my project on your blog!
Gorgeous card Mary and oh so elegant!
What a delightful card! Love the color combination.
Absolutely creative! I adore this and the colors are divine!
