PPA23 Anything But a Card

Stampin up sweet pea chipboard art journal

On New Year's Eve, what could be more appropriate than jotting down resolutions in a sweet little album.  For this week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA23, Anything But a Card), I dressed up this Stampin' Up! On Board 5" x 5" Art Journal using Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper (available Jan. 5 Occasions Mini Catalog).

LET'S SHARE!  Leave me a comment at the end of this post with your top New Year's resolution.  I plan to use my album throughout the year to remind me of my resolve and take notes (possibly photos) when I reach my goals.

Here's my list:

  • Eat healthier (usually I'm pretty good but the last few weeks have been nothing short of a junk food fest–oink).
  • Get back into a yoga routine.  I have gone from pretzel knot to pretzel rod.
  • Hike with my family (we have the mountains within minutes but have only hiked twice since moving to Arizona).
  • Have my daughter, Caroline, teach me how to make jewelry. Her necklaces are tr?s cool.
  • Make more time for reading books.
  • Do more Stampin' Up! videos.
  • Learn to bake.  I cook fairly well.  However, anything baked is hit and miss–unless I can count ready to bake cookies? LOL
  • Join PaperWorks, a local paper arts group.  Fascinating speakers and projects.
  • Create my first scrapbook (ever) with My Digital Studio.

  4. I love this Mary….I ordered 3 of these books (one for me and both my girls)…I saw this concept in scrapbook fashion in a Creative Memories Magazine. I have many “resolutions” this year….I plan to do them all. I can’t wait to make my book. Thanks for your wonderful blog and ideas….Stephanie

  5. Can’t wait to use that paper now that I’ve seen a completed project. I resolve to work on Christmas more throughout the year to accomplish a long-held goal of making ALL of my gifts! I love to give and receive hand-crafted items. I already have several projects lined up, but I need to work on them steadily through the year instead of waiting until “Christmas Time.”

  6. Hi Mary – This book is absolutely fabulous!

One my goals this year is to loose weight and cook healthier meals. I also want to do more Stampin and perhaps start a blog in Spanish displaying my cards and projects. The other big thing I need to do is save money for my trip to New York next Christmas.

Happy New Year and best wishes to you and your family 🙂

  9. Fantastic idea, Mary! Your designs are always so well “put together”! Very inspiring. At the top of my resolution/goal list is to be MORE organized! I thought that with retirement that wouldn’t be necessary…NOT TRUE! Happy New Year to you and your family!

  13. Awesome book! Very cute. I’m going to be naughty and quote one of my favorite newspaper cartoons from years back (Shoe): “Since I’m on the road to ruin, I might as well take the scenic route!” But, since that’s not particularly inspiring, I guess I’ll have to promise to dig out my Wii Fit again! Happy New Year and see you next week!

  14. Great idea! This year I plan on setting goals, not resolutions. I think goals can be achieved, where resolutions are forgotten around the first of February. A few of my goals are to: eat healthier, exercise 3x/week, and finish some of my UFO’s sitting in my closet. Oh, and start organizing the house, room by room. ~lefsegirl

  15. Oh Mary what a wonderful book!!! I will have to make one. I have so many resolutions this year… I have personal goals, SU Goals and Weight goals to meet. Oh, I’m already tired just typing them *smile*. I have always wanted to do Yoga, any favorite books or DVD’s you could share for a beginner?

  16. What a totally cute book, Mary!! I LOVE that paper, and this book and the birthday card you made for your daughter have cinched that deal!!! Ha!

A couple of my resolutions are 1) to get back to a work out routine (oink, oink here too!) and 2) what ever I buy this year needs to have a specific purpose, either short term or long term, but not just because I love it. 😉

Good luck on your resolutions and as always, thanks for sharing your beautiful creations!

  17. I love your book! Isn’t the new paper great?!!! My New Years resolution is to get more of my Stampin Up work out there, as well as continuing my resolution of making gifts for people. Happy New Year to you and your family! Hugs!!

  18. Your book is precious, Mary. I won’t resolve to make one since I already write daily in a “happy” journal and it records my thoughts and deeds, as well as my dreams and goals. I do want to make Christmas scrapbooks for my brothers of photos when we were growing up and our “early marriage” years when all of our children were young. I also would like to make a scrapbook for each of my three children of photos that marked events in their lives as they were growing up. I have never scrapped a single page with photos, so this will be an undertaking. I will not set a goal to finish this year, but to at least get started! Happy New Year, Mary!

  19. YES! I love your 2010 book! I resolve to make one in January. My other resolution is to meet you at Leadership. You will be there, won’t you? You’ve been an inspiration to me since I found your blog after you were featured in Stampin’ Success. It would be fun to meet you in person and thank you for all you share with us! — Sandy

Hi Sandy: I will be at Leadership and would love to meet. How will I know you? You have seen my photo . . . I’ll likely have reading glass on. LOL Hugs, M

  21. Great idea Mary! Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll make one for our upcoming downline meeting. When we write our goals down and keep them in front of us we are far more likely to accomplish them. Thanks for the inspiring blog and all you do to help others! Hope your New Year is successful and happy.

Hi Dacia: What a great idea! Hugs, Mary

  23. Hmmm…baking I can do (since it involves sugar I’m guessing) but learn to cook should be what I do in 2010. We can swap notes!
Have a safe, happy and healthy New Year Mary!

  24. That Sweet Pea paper kicks it for sure. Love the idea of writing down the resolutions you’re going to break. The guilt trip will be so much more FUN!!

    Miss Karren:

Alas, you remind me of the reality . . . if I can knock off 50% of these little promises (considering a couple were carry overs from last year), I’ll be happy.

    Hugs, M

  26. One of my MANY New Year’s resolutions is “to think before I purchase.” I spend SO much money on things I never use!!! I am noticing a “trickle down” effect on my kids…I want to nip this in the bud for ALL of us!!

    Beautiful journal, Mary!

  27. I LOVE this idea…a book!! What a great, beautiful and fun reminder to make. I think I’ll try this. There are some things I want to start doing “again” and even try. And what better way to do it than to start with making a cute little reminder book. You are so kind to share your resolutions and I hope it will help others to seek for a better life in 2010.

Have a Healthy and Happy New Year!!
