Inspiration to use recycled materials is from Our Creative Corner and the sketch is from Splitcoast Stampers SC225.
- Using a Big Shot Die-Cut Machine and Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die (a Stampin' Up! exclusive), crop the magazine page for the technicolor butterfly. Vavoom! TIP: For added strength, I re-cropped the butterfly in Night of Navy and adhered it to the back.
- Three pearls from the Pretties Kit create the body. TIP: A Mini Glue Dot holds them in place.
- A 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" piece of Elegant Eggplant took a ride through my Big Shot with Stampin' Up!'s Backgrounds I Texturz Plates.
- Adhere the Butterfly and Elegant Eggplant square over Green Galore (2 3/4" x 2 3/4") using Stampin' Dimensionals.
- Slip Elegant Eggplant 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon through the middle (and tie once the remaining layers are in place).
- Run two 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" pieces of Whisper White card stock through the Big Shot with the same Texturz Plate.
- Mat on a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece of Night of Navy card stock, 5" x 3 3/4" piece of Green Galore (TIP: Remember to tie the ribbon) and finally a Whisper White card base (4 1/4 x 5 1/2", scored on the side).
- The sentiment (from Chit Chat Rub-Ons) combines Elegant Eggplant and Green Galore Small and Large Oval Punches, adhered with a couple Stampin' Dimensionals.
- The final touch is a Boho Blossoms flower punch in Night of Navy, topped with a Pretties Kit pearl.
What a clever idea. Color combinations are great.
That is amazing, Mary!! I would never have thought to do that.
Wow, Mary, what an interesting idea! I love it! Very “out of the box” choice of colours, too!
I just finished working on a “My First Year” baby album. It was time-consuming, but I am very happy with the result! It reminds me a bit of the card box I had done for your blog post. I guess I like projects that cover a year, don’t I? haha! It’s up on my blog, if you want to see 🙂
Have a great day!
Cindy

Dear Mary – You always come up with WoW ideas that show off your creativity and elegance in design. Thanks for sharing! Now I’ll be looking at ads in a whole new way. I’ve been cutting up the good pictures for awhile now but I usually turn right past the advertisements.

oh my goodness mary!! how fun is that!? i love the colors…oh, i want to try it right now! the whole thing is delicious!! a definate WOW!
Hi Mary! Beautiful card. Love love love the idea of recycling magazines for cool papers! Had just one question – the texturz plates; what are their dimensions? I have a bunch of cuttlebug texture plates, and they do a 5.5 x 4.25 texture area… just wondering if these are bigger or not. Thanks!!! 🙂
Hi Lisa:
The full dimensions of the plates are approximately 8″ x 6″. However, the potential texture area is 7 3/8″ x 5 3/4 (approximately). This is larger than the cuttlebug folder coverage. Note that the Texturz Plats leave a softer (less definited finish). Still very pretty but a different look.
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, this is a simply delicious card!! Love the idea and can’t wait to try it!

Love it! The colors are so vibrant. Is there nothing you can’t do? I love the idea of recyling. I hate to throw away magazines and now I have a new use for them. Thanks for the ideas.
You make recycling look so elegant!
SO cool, Mary!
