Forest friends

Whew!  On to today's card that highlights one of the cutie patootie new stamps from the Occasions Mini set "Forest Friends."  I also used a snappy little layout from Card Positioning Systems combined with a twist from my Stampin' Pretty Pals group to use buttons.

The tree was inked in Chocolate Chip and Kiwi Kiss.  It's stamped on Whisper White, matted on Chocolate Chip followed with a background of Kiwi Kiss and Chocolate Chip.  To satisfy my "button" requirement, I attached Always Artichoke Buttons from Fresh Favorites II.  TIP:  Mini Glue Dots (103682) are perfect for adhering buttons, with little risk of "wardrobe failure."

TIP:  One of my favorite tricks is to cut a sliver of card stock (in this case Chocolate Chip) and "thread" it through the button for a coordinated, finished look.

The Whisper White background took a trip through a Big Shot Die-Cut Machine with Stampin' Up!'s "harlequin" Backgrounds I Texturz Pad.  TIP:  I have now found just the right amount of tension for producing a good impression by adding pieces of card stock to the Big Shot Multi-Purpose Platform sandwich.  It took a little experimentation but I no longer need to mist first.  I did a dry and "wet" run with the same sandwich and the results were the same.  Much easier and no waiting for the card stock to dry.

The sentiment and dots on the strips of Kiwi Kiss are Hidden Garden Rub-Ons, so easy to place on these thin guys  A piece of luscious Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain wraps things together with 4.25 x 5.5 card base in Always Artichoke.

Are you headed to Minneapolis Regionals this weekend?  I'll be there on Friday evening and for the Saturday session.  Please email me if you would like to meet.

  2. this is *unbelievably* gorgeous. but … since it came from you, NOT so unbelievably. as to the texture plates…i noticed that the multipurpose platform has TWO places to use texture plates: the base, and then tab 1. one is for thinner cardstock, the other for thicker cardstock. i did not see this explained in the literature … must have overlooked it. but it certainly makes a difference when feeding through, for instance, whisper white c/s. i am sure the shims help also. i put my shims on the very top of all the layers, is this correct?
also, what does it mean when you put all the layers through and they sort of slide out of position on the way through the big shot … maybe i am doing something wrong.
anyway, LOVED this card and am thinking i NEED to have forest friends!!! love that tree!!!
    hugs, jo ann.

    Hi Jo Ann:

Thank you for your question. Every Big Shot will be a little different. For me, I use two pieces of thin card stock just below tab one to may a nice tight (but not too tight) sandwich.

I’m not sure why you are having sliding? Are you using the rubber mat? This is the order for the sandwich i use (from TOP to BOTTOM). Texturz Impressions Pad/Texturz Silicone Rubber/Card Stock/ Texturz Plate/Multipurpose Platform opened to Tab 1, two pieces of thin card stock below Tab 1 to work as a shim.

You will need to experiment to find just the right tension for your Big Shot.

    Hugs, Mary

  3. Wait! I want to know what your perfect sandwich is. I’ve been experimenting too and was about to try the “wet” method, but I’d rather find another option. Please share!! Thanks, Mary!

Hi Britiney: Since each Big Shot is going to have slightly different tension, I recommend you experiment a bit. I have it working perfectly (and not forcing the plates through) adding two sheets of card stock to my sandwich, below Tab 1 of the Multipurpose Platform. Hugs, M

  5. Mary what an awesome card!!!! So clean and crisp. Love the colors and added some rub-ons was a great idea. I was wondering what set you used for that and when I only saw one set mentioned….then I continued reading and found out it was rub-ons. I have so many different rub-ons now I am going to start using them….thanks for the inspiration.

  7. I love this card!! I love ALL your cards though. You are such an inspiration and to be honest I have copied a couple of your cards. I had kind of looked over this stamp set and chose not to order it but now i’m reconsidering after seeing this card!! Thanks!

  8. Love this card…. but that is no surprise. How do you get the texture plates to look so good. Mine didn’t come out so well. I love the tree in this stamp set but I don’t see myself using the rest of the animals. Any ideas? ~ Jennine

Hi Jennine: I originally was misting the card stock, which softened the paper and “molded” it better to the texture. However, I have finally found by playing with the sandwich, adding card stock as shims (this will vary from machine to machine), I can keep the card stock dry and get a good impression. It’s never going to be as defined as a cuttlebug but it’s a softer, beautiful alternative. Hugs, Mary
