A Sticky Situation

Stampin up sticky cuts

I should know better.  I hadn't used Stampin' Up!'s Sticky Cuts before and proceeded full steam ahead on my maiden voyage.  I ended up with a tree trunk doubled over and leaves sticking to my fingers or tweezers, refusing to extricate themselves from one or the other . . . . all in a sea of glitter.  I vowed to never use them again.  My whispered dialogue worthy of Tony Soprano.

Then I discovered the directions . . .

Properly used, Sticky Cuts are quite simple.  They function much like Sticky Strip Tape.  Had I read the directions, I would have known to remove the desired die-cut and peel off the white backing.  Next, you adhere the adhesive image to the project.  After applying the image, you press down firmly and remove the orange-ish transparent plastic liner.  The image is ready for beads or glitter.

Once I straightened out my sticky mess (which should never have happened) and added glitter, I fell immediately in love.  The glitter (added one color at a time), had fallen neatly into place and the sparkle was breathtaking.  This will be a delightful surprise for my 15 year old daughter, a budding little artist, who will use the On Board Art Journal for sketching.

TIP:  If you haven't used Stampin' Up!'s Spiral Punch before, here's a great tutorial by Colleen Laux.

Note:  The Full of Life stamp used is on Stampin's Up!'s BrownSignature

  1. If you like comfort foods I have a great and easy crock pot recipe for you! My family enjoys it with mashed potatoes and corn!

    “Coke” Roast

    1 FROZEN eye round roast
    1 can Coke (regular)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 envelope onion soup mix

Mix the coke, mushroom soup and onion soup mix together. Put the FROZEN roast in a crock pot and pour the mixture over top. Put on high for about 7-8 hours. You will get a really yummy gravy with this. Enjoy!

  2. Too funny… I love that you share when you make a mess too! Sometimes life just happens, doesn’t it? Love your glitter tree.. may have to revisit that stamp set again!

  3. Must place another order immediately for sticky cuts and glitter! Had them on my first one and was trying not to spend so much. Forget it! I have to spend too much! 🙂
    Thanks for the awesome inspiration!

  4. So beautiful!! Thanks for your cautionary tale.. i just ordered these and can’t wait for them to arrive!

  5. Hilarious. Makes me feel better to read about the experts making mistakes! The final results are just perfect. Sounds like a wonderful way to really stick the glitter to the card.

  6. Thansk you for clearing these instructions. I wanted to thank you for the Stamping 911 tutorial, and for directing me to splitcoaststampers website. It has been very helpful. I wanted to ask, do you scrapbook, and, if so, would you show some of your lay-outs sometime? I am new to this site, and I am trying to catch up, so this may have been posted before. Please forgive if it has. Nancy E

Hi Nancy: I’m don’t scrapbook . . . yet 🙂 Thanks for asking. Hugs, Mary

  7. You made me laugh. But your book turned out beautifully. I LOVE glitter and this is so neat.
    Great job!

  8. WOW Mary! I love, love, love it!! So sparkly & pretty… your daughter will love it!
PS… got a laff out of your little whisper thing!

  9. Perfect Project Mary! Your daughter will love it! So glad to know you make mistakes too 🙂

  10. I absolutely love this. I just ordered these myself. I also love how you slipped the dormant stamp set in there to remind people of those sets that they don’t look at every time they open their catalog. I am trying to find ways to “show” my customers the products to purchase and this is such a great way to do it. As always you are an inspiration! Thanks so much – Jennine

  11. I loved this post! It made me realize that some of our mistakes are just learning curves & and we all have a curve here & there. The journal is such a touching gift…I think I’ve been inspired to make one for my daughter. Thanks!

  12. Soprano’s whispered dialogue?? Choked a bit on my coffee when I read that. Too funny!!! Thank you so much for your candid honesty. I’m sure your daughter will love the journal!

  13. Mary, you made my day!! I have so many flops it is not funny. Nice to know even seasoned stampers like you make a mistake. Maybe there is hope for me!

  14. This is gorgeous Mary! I just ordered some of these through my local SU friend and can’t wait to get them. Thanks for sharing!
