Santa Comes But Once a Year

Stampin up jolly old st nick rub-ons

Still looking at your holiday rub-ons and not sure where to start?  Here's another fun example using rub-ons (see all my holiday samples here).  I love the crisp texture (sentiments look divine) and how striking they appear on deeper colored card stock.  My punches came out to play, too!

The large "santa" sentiment is from Old St. Nick Rub-Ons (Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog–email me your name and address if you would like a free copy).  It's a quick and easy transfer on Riding Hood Red card stock.  TIP:  I use a bone folder to simplify the process.  The red layer is adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to Whisper White stock.

The horizontal panel below is a lovely swatch of Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Treasures Designer Series paper layered over Whisper White.  The base edge of the white is jazzed with a Scallop Edge Punch.  TIP:  When using the Scallop Edge Punch, start with a larger piece of card stock than you need.  Cut to size once you see where the scallops are . . . you can keep the scallops on each end more even that way.

The 4.25 x 5.5 card base of Riding Hood Red card stock is scored at the top.  TIP:  After you score, fold with the score ridge to the inside of the card and the indentation to the outside.  I think it creates a more polished finish.  Bordering Blue card stock took a texture-bound trip through my Big Shot Die Cutting Machine with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder.

I transfered three Old St. Nick Rub-On snowflakes to Riding Hood Red card stock and popped them out with a 1/2" Circle Punch.  Each receives some bling courtesy of my Pretties Rhinestone Brads.  I layered a Little Felt Flurries snowflake (they come in Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, 3 sizes, 69 pieces) on a 1 1/4" Square of Whisper White layered over a Scallop Square of Bordering Blue.

The final touches were a large Clear Rhinestone Brad (Stampin' Up! Pretties Kit) and a luscious strip of Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon.

  3. Great color combo and use of dimension, Mary. Again, I’m reminded to haul out my rub-ons….especially the Christmas ones, since Santa DOES come but once a year =)

    Dear T:

I’m using them up like a mad woman . . . after Christmas they will be old news . . . got to use them while they are hot. ‘Tis the season.

    Hugs,

    Mary

Regarding your question about the Scallop Punch and a fuzzy outcome… Mary had asked me to add my TIP: I had a customer who was having similar results and it turned out she had pretty flimsy paper and just wasn’t getting a clean cute. So beside the possibility of a defective punch, you could check the type of paper cutting through as well.

  9. Mary,

I’ve been coveting the Scallop Punch, but have read mixed reviews at SCS. Several stampers report getting a “fuzzy” punched edge. Have you or any customers experienced this as well?

Thanks! And like someone above mentioned, I stop by every day for inspiration. Keep it up!

    Hi Sharon:

    Hi Sharon:

Excellent question. First of all, if the fuzzy edges are really bad, the punch is probably defective and should be exchanged.

If there’s just a little tuft or two (this can occasionally happen on other punches, too), I grab one of my SU sand blocks and gently rub it off. Cheap and easy.

    Hugs,

    Mary
