Guess Who? When I dressed up Stampin' Up!'s Sock Monkey as Uptown Girl, one of my readers suggested a future Halloween costume. Loved the idea and tucked it away on my blog "to do" journal. I'm just batty about him. TIP: Keep a stamping journal of ideas for when your creativity needs a kick start–even if it's just a tiny accent that caught your eye.
I stamped Sock Monkey twice (Basic Black ink), first on Whisper White and second on the skull and bones pattern from Ghostly Greetings Designer Series Paper. TIP: I used a Stampin' Up! Basic Black Marker (the wide brush end) to color his paws, tail, patch and mask. Next, the patterned image was cropped down to just the costume and adhered. I re-stamped just the mouth area of Sock Monkey (Basic Black ink) on Pumpkin Pie and snipped out his mouth.
Mr. Monkey's hat was stamped in Basic Black on Whisper White. The stripes were created using Stampin' Up!'s Pumpkin Pie marker (are coordinating markers fabulous, or what)? The hat was snipped out and mounted on a Stampin' Dimensional. TIP: The skeleton head adds the final headwear pizzazz, simply a quick rub-on from Chills and Thrills.
I split the Chills and Thrills sentiment "too cute" and "to spook." The spider is another rub-on from the same set and I just dotted in a web thread with a Basic Black marker. TIP: The adorable brads used on the main panel and sentiment are called Sprinkle Brads–Bootiful, on sale at Just Brads. It was love at first sight when I spied them.
The main panel is layered on Basic Black. I added a dotted border with a Signo White Gel Pen. Using the same pattern as the costume, I centered the main panel on top.
The sentiment (on Whisper White card stock) combines the last half of the sentiment and a charming bat, both from Chills and Thrills rub-ons. Layers of Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie follow. The card base is 4.25 x 5.5 (scored on the side) Pumpkin Pie card stock with a 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 piece of Basic Black on top.
