Beaded Blooms

Stampin up pink pirouette eastern blooms

I finally took the plunge into Stampin' Up!'s dry embossing products, including Light Table (102888), Classy Brass Templates (Floral Frenzy, 111807) and the Empressor Stylus (100716).  I'm hooked and you will see more examples and a tutorial in the near future.  Beware . . . it's very enabling!

Today's card highlights dry embossing with the Classy Brass Template "Floral Frenzy," the perfect complement to Stampin' Up!'s Eastern Blooms Stamp Set. The Pink Pirouette flowers were stamped on Whisper White card stock.  The brass template lines up with this sweet little bloom and very quickly my blooms were "puffed up" by tracing the edges with my stylus.  Dazzling!  Can it get better?  Yeah, baby . . . each flower has a piercing template around it.  So many possibilities.

I dotted Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive in the centers of each flower and added a dash of these yummy green micro Beads (Stampin' Up! Green Bead Duo, 110754).  TIP:  They tend to have the drive to go in many directions (static is to blame) so use a Powder Pal or some sort of tray to tame these wayward guys.

I layered the flower panel on Chocolate Chip card stock (the final color required for today's Splitcoast Color Challenge, CC189–all challenges are listed on my left side bar).  The horizontal panel consists of Pink Pirouette Textured card stock over Chocolate Chip, which was shaped along with the bottom with Stampin' Up!'s Scallop Edge Punch.  Kiwi/Vanilla Satin Ribbon adds a polished accent.  The Whisper White card base is 4.25 x 5.5 with a layer of Kiwi Kiss Textured card stock on top.

The sentiment is from Bella Blossoms.  It was stamped in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink and heat embossed in Clear Embossing Powder.  I popped it out with the Large Oval Punch and adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals to Kiwi Kiss Textured card stock.  Corners are clipped with a Ticket Corner Punch and dotted with Pretty in Pink Brads (Soft Subtles Assortment).

  1. I too have been debating over whether or not to spend money on the light table and brass templates. I struggle with the idea that I could spend my money on other things that I need! Haha! However, it is good to see the projects you have shared. I am more likely to get it now! Thanks so much for the tips!

  2. Welcome sister convert to dry style stamping!

I also love the way you use the word enabling. PC version of addicting I’m guessing. Not to belittle in anyway those who struggle with real addictions I still have to admit to having dreams (or should that be nightmares) of standing up at a Stampers Anonymouse Meeting and saying: Hi my name is Jean and I’m addidicted to Stamping…..I generally wake up in a cold sweat and wonder if I should hide my stamps!

As for my other dry stamping addictions…..
I have to say that next to the Big Shot & Cuttlebug folders… hand done Dry Embossing is my passion. I also admit that I get so anxious to move on to the embossing part of the equation that I often forget to do the stamping part first! – LoL!

The effect of stamping after can sometimes be interesting but I have a sign up now that says: Think before you Styl(us)! just to be on the safe side.

I really loved the micro bead use. I keep looking at them in the catalog and wondering what I would do with them. Now I know…check Mary’s blog when in need of inspiration…I better get my sign making kit out and post that above my catalogs.

    Thanks for enabling..er..sharing…Mary!

Hugs and blessings wrap you round – Jean

  5. Wow!!!! This is one gorgeous card! I never knew to do that with micro beads. I am really impressed. I love your work and this card just amazes me. The beads look different then the green combo in the catalog though. They almost look like they match the kiwi kiss. Is it more that color green?

    Hi Jacki:

The micro beads are almost dead on for Kiwi Kiss and could easily cross over into Old Olive, possibly Artichoke. The larger green beads that come with Stampin’ Up!’s Green Duos, are brighter, better suited for a brighter green.

    Thanks for asking!

    Hugs,

    Mary

  6. Lovely! I’ve eyed this template to go with my stamp set as well. You’re such an enabler! (argh!) Do the beads “stay-put” once the glue is dry? Love the look! Hugs, Monica

    Hi Monica:

I think I have created a monster (but a nice one). I’m surprised at the response to the dry embossing. I have to admit it looks pretty cool and is easy to do–a stamper’s dream.

The beads should stay put. However, honestly, I’m a little worried about sending them in the mail. Might be a bit too much bouncing and a few of those naughty beads may dislodge.

SU recommends the glue I used . . . hopefully, they have tested it.

    Hugs,

    M

I love the card today. You did a great job. I could see it as an Anniversary, wedding card. Really nice. You did it again.

  12. WOW! Mary this is absolutely beautiful! I am in love with this card. The colors are fantastic but the embossed flowers with the beaded centers are just WOW!!!! And I bet it is even more fabulous in person. The computer tends to not do things like this justice.

  13. that is neat how the brass template lines up with the stamp. That makes coloring it so much easier. I have used the templates before, but then had to do the coloring by hand.
And the added beads just puts the finishing touch on this card.

  14. Just gorgeous Mary. I’ve had the SU light box for over a year and I just love it. It’s bright, it’s stable, it’s easy to store and much easier to use than other light boxes I’ve tried.

  17. AMAZING!! Beautiful layout using a gorgeous color combo. The texture on this card is incredible. It took me awhile to soak it all up. I’m so impressed with your willingness to push yourself in new directions! Well done!

  18. I’ve used those micro beads and my psyciatrist told me not to do it anymore. They are bad little boys I think I prefer to use micro fine glitter or tiny pearls, but you have a lot more patience and the card looks superb. I have that set and thank goodness we have you to give us ideas what to do with it. I’m going to try it but I’ll stick to the fine glitter.

    Hi Sandy:

I agree that the micro beads can be naughty boys. If you can coral them in a powder pal or tray, they are at least contained. They DID stick perfectly to my little circle of glue (much like embossing powder) which was redeeming for me!

    Hugs, Mary

I hope you haven’t suffered too much emotional damage from the beads 🙂

  19. how handy do you find the empressor stylus compared to a regular stylus?

    Hi Ren?e:

The trick is to rub a bit of wax paper on the card stock first, then use the stylus. The Empressor glides like a dream. It has two sizes, one on each end. However, for very small areas (available on some of the other templates), you still need the regular Stylus (100663, $2.50), because it has a smaller head.

    Hugs, Mary
