For those of you who follow me on my Stampin’ Pretty Facebook Page, I’m back from Los Angeles after one of the best family holidays ever! I hope you enjoyed my week of Stampin’ with the Stars (there’s one more “star” tomorrow–love HIS project), showcasing the work of my Stampin’ Pretty Pals Community (while “the cat” was away on a much needed vacation).
Today’s project was inspired by this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO326). I chose “square” for my 5 x 5 card! What will you choose?
STAMPIN’ PRETTY TIPS:
- SNEAK PEEK! I used both the Stampin’ Up! Perfect Pennants stamp set and new coordinating Banners Framelits Dies to create the sentiment pennant! Both are available in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog starting Jan. 3!
- SNEAK PEEK! You are also getting a chance to witness an early look at very hip pattern from the the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack (also Occasions Catalog).
- SNEAK PEEK! A button from Basic Metal Buttons (Occasions Catalog) brings the star to life. A cross stitch of Whisper White Baker’s Twine gives it polish!
- MEASUREMENTS: The card base is 5″ square. The two layers on top of the base are sized down 1/4″ each (4 3/4″ and 4 1/2″ square). The patterned paper measures 4 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. The Real Red Cardstock measures 4 1/2″ x a smidge over 1″ and is tucked under the patterned piece. The Coastal Cabana Cardstock measures 4 1/4″ x 1 3/4″.
- I used Crumb Cake Cardstock and the Stampin’ Up! Envelope Punch Board to create the perfectly sized envelope for the 5 x 5 card. Need a refresher on how to create a custom envelope liner using minimal patterned paper? Here’s my video tutorial! See my complete Tutorial Library.

Such a cute card and love your take on the sketch. These items are going on my wish list for sure. Also, thank-you for the refresher tutorial on the envelope liner.
The trendy new designer paper patterns can be very powerful. I suggest countering that with either a lot of Whisper White (Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake) or combining them with a solid color (as I did with Real Red) for a balancing effect.
thanks, deba! happy new year to you! m
I love everything about this card. It’s bright and cheerful. The star is especially my favorite. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Mary, this is a great card! I was waiting until either you, Brian or Justin came up with using this dizzy paper from the paper stack. You took an “eye crossing” design and made it shine brightly! Love it! Thanks for sharing and the video. You rock! Happy New Year and best wishes for continued success!
yes, the metal buttons are adorable . . . just a few more days until you can purchase them (Occasions Catalog, Jan. 3).
The star was stamped using a stamp from the new Perfect Pennants set. I snipped it out and added the basic metals button (also new).
What a great card, I love how the star and the button add the perfect finishing touches!
Great colour combo and papers!!
Another thanks for measurements!! Can’t find info on your gorgeous star? Thanks!! And… Happy New Year!!
LOVE this color combo! I have SU club this Saturday and I think you just enabled me with some new products! 🙂
I love the color combination and your envelope insert!! Very nice work!!
Mary that was so nice of you to add the measurements for Tori. Blessings for a wonderful 2014!
Beautiful Mary – I love this card!!!! 🙂
Thank you for your New Year’s Wishes! I wish you the best as well! Boy, do I have some amazing things coming up in 2014 . . . stay tuned!
Great tip for the envelope liner Mary, thank you. The card is fantastic, what a great combination of colors. Sending Love, Joy and Health wishes in 2014 for you and your family.
Hi Tory: Thank you for your kind comments and being a follower of my blog! Frankly, other than the card base size (which I share if it’s something OTHER than 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), I rarely measure individual pieces. Most layers are 1/4″ smaller than the one below. TIP: Take a look at the card as a whole and think proportions and you should be able to estimate fairly well. I haven’t mailed this card yet and added the measurements to the post. M
Now that is an amazing card Mary……And the envelope liner is darling. Thanks for the refresh video!
Love your blog. Been following it for about 3 years. It there any chance you could include measurements on some of the more layered cards like this one. I don’t have a lot of time creating since I am a caregiver and my own health issues. I would be very grateful for any help.
Hope your new year is filled with God’s finest gifts for you and your family.
Blessings.
