Faux Cloisonn? Butterflies

Stampin_up_faux_cloisonne_2
Blog candy?  I'm a relative newbie to the blogging scene.  However, there are still terms that I'm learning every day.  If it translates to "a gift to blog readers" . . . then I'm prepared to offer a little blog candy as a "Merci" for your regular Stampin' Pretty visits!

I have an extra (brand new) Stampin_up_faux_close
Faux Cloisonn? is a seriously divine technique, highlighted by this week's Technique Lover's Challenge (link at the end of this post).  I dipped the Merci butterfly in Versamark and stamped on a colorful magazine page–in this case a collage of roses from a fashion catalog.  I then heat embossed with gold embossing powder and snipped them out.

Square punches of various colors provide a lovely backdrop.  I chose to only glue my pretty insects in the middle and left the antennae and wings free to flutter.  TIP: Please don't feel compelled to line up the butterflies like little soldiers . . . let them enjoy some movement.  I stamped my sentiment and added a couple layers of ribbon at the top.  TIP:  The squares were adhered last so that I could balance them between the ribbon and sentiment.

The bottom of the vanilla card stock was sculpted with a Corner Rounder Punch and a piece of More Mustard was attached to add some vavoom against the scalloped border.

Stamp Sets:  Merci (Sale-A-Bration, 111407), Simply Said
Paper:  Very Vanilla (101650), More Mustard (100946), Pumpkin Pie (105117), Cameo Coral (100475), Ruby Red (102030), Summer Sun (103124)
Ink:  Versamark (102283), Basic Black (101179)
Cool Tools:  1 3/8" Square Punch (103375), Corner Rounder Punch (109047), Heat Tool (100005)
The Perfect Touch:  Gold Embossing Powder (109129), Groovy Guava Sherbet Ribbon Originals (109184), More Mustard 1/4" Grosgrain (109037)

  1. This is absolutely beautiful! I love what you did here. I need to try this technique!! I really am enjoying looking through your blog, you have great cards! Thanks for sharing.

  2. My post vanished…so I’ll try again.
My fav set is So Many Scallops and I love how the scallop punch (my will show up any day) can be used to make a madallion. I want to use these two to make a card for a 2nd birthday.
I don’t have the Merci set but would to own it to try to make your beautiful butterflies with the faux cloisonne
technique. The rose page you used for your butterflies would certainly brighten the day we have here in New England. It’s grey, overcast and misting. Ugh! but Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait.

  3. Boy! do you have the comments…..
So many scallops is my favorite set and I’m waiting for the SU scallop punch to show up on my doorstep (any day now). I want to punch out the medallion & with so many scallops make for a birthday card.
The Merci set I don’t have, but would to own to try your faux cloisonne technique. You used a beautiful rose page for your butterflies and that would definetly help liven up the gray overcast day we are having here in New England!!! Spring is just around the corner…I hope!!!

  4. I love so many sale-a-bration sets, but I think I’ve had the most fun with the rub-ons. Your blog is great!

  5. Great blog candy! I have been using the Sale a Bration rub ons and loving them! The weather here in Idaho is starting to warm up for spring and is wonderful! Except for a little rain…but after all the snow we got this year, rain is ok in my book!

  6. Mary, for a relatively newbie to blogging, you seem like you’ve been blogging for a LONG TIME! You’re doing a great job and your work is beautiful. Merci for the cool blog candy…I LOOVVVVEEEE it! The weather here in So. Cal. is mid 70’s with rain supposedly on the way. Have a good one!

  7. I love all of your ideas:) My favorite Su saleabration set would have to be friendship blooms. As for the weather it was almost 40 & the snow is finally starting to melt:)

  8. Hi Mary, I am a relatively new blog reader. I got started via splitcoaststampers when I was looking for an idea to teach to at my stamping club. It’s warm here in Arizona and my favorite sale-a-bration set is “So Many Scallops” Probably because I am so into punches right now!

  9. An inspiration as always! S.up should pay you mega bonuses for making all of us want each stamp set you incorporate in your projects! That’s not just talent, it’s expert salesmanship as well! 🙂
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting the Merci since you used it in the Easter card. And it would be the first time ever that I got all of the SAB sets! Thanks as always!

  10. Hi,
I love your blog and am a fellow Madisonian. I would have to say that “Merci” is my favorite set. You know how the weather is here–don’t you wish the hideously dirty snowpiles would melt??!!

  11. Love your site – visit everyday! Weather in Virginia is perfect. I am using the Peaceful Wishes set a lot lately.

  12. Mary, everytime I visit your site I always say WOW! You are amazing, so talented! I love the butterflies and what I like the most is the fact that you used a magazine page to make them, that is so creative! I like all of the celebration sets, I guess the scalloped one grabbed me right away but I wish I could have them all 😉 Weather here in Miami is nice I guess, not too hot and sunny, good day for the pool. Thank you for the chance at blog candy.

  13. Well, the only SAB set I own yet is the Birthday Whimsy set but I happen to LOVE it! 😀 It is my first birthday set so I was really excited to use it! I am, however, getting the other sets this week though! I am excited about that! Oh, the weather here is beautiful! I love Colorado because the sun is almost always shining! It’s been in the 50s-60s all week! I should probably knock on wood though! Haha! I love your card! You are extremely talented!

  14. wow….fun new technique for me to see! good job on being brave and trying it out! i’m hoping for a chance to stamp tomorrow…hope hope hope!!

  24. It’s 37 degrees and sunny in central Illinois today. A beautiful day! Of course, any day I wake up with the ground beneath me is a GREAT DAY! 🙂

  25. All of the Sale-a-Bration sets are great, including the rub-ons! However, I love the versatility of the So Many Scallops set, and I love stamps I can use with my punches. If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be So Many Scallops.

  26. Merci is the only Sale-a-Bration set I haven’t gotten. I’m familiar with the cloisonn? technique, but hadn’t thought to use it with that set. This is why I love your website so much ~ you have all the great ideas!

  27. I have several favorites, you are probably responsible for some of them being my fave!!I love your site! I think spring is on the way here.

  32. I don’t go to a party until Saturday so I haven’t had a chance to ink any of them up, but I might have to choose the scallops—I love punches (no nestabilities yet!) so this set would indulge me~ The weather in Raleigh, NC is BEAUTIFUL (sorry for shouting!) high in the upper 60’s, cool mornings and evenings! Divine. Thanks for the chance to win!

What an awesome technique to use with this butterfly! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Did I mention I love it yet? LOL! Perhaps I’m infected with Spring Fever?
